Maxi Skirt and Rain Coat

I'm feeling a wee bit miffed right now since I had plans to go eat delish sushi with some awesome people tonight, but then the weather decided to crap all over my plans and almost caused a flood in our back yard, so here I am eating leftovers :( The ONLY circumstance salvaging this AWFUL situation is that the leftovers in question are a delicious bowl of tomato soup with meat balls me and my sis cooked up. #whitegirlproblems

ANYWAYS, when I was sitting on the toilet a few weeks ago (don't EW me, we all do it!), I was thumbing through oooooold magazines for a few seconds and a picture caught my eye. A runway picture of a model wearing a maxi skirt with flatforms (I think) and the cutest little raincoat (sadly don't remember the designer.. thoughts?). Suddenly, it all clicked in my head.

Usually I tend to pair longer hemlines with short tops and short jackets, while I wear shorter hemlines with longer jackets. Long on long felt frumpy and dumpy in my mind. But in this particular picture, it just looked SO RIGHT! And I just happened to have a current obsession with maxis AND the cutest raincoat ever, so I got on that style experiment STAT. And I absolutely love the end result. A very fresh way to wear a maxi without going either boho or grungy, feels very modern to me.

  4. Ah, I love the color of your shirt! And the polkadots on the lining of your raincoat (I think it's the cutest raincoat I have ever seen!) You look so cute and comfortable. I think I need a maxi skirt like that.

  5. I'm just curious. What do you mean by #whitegirlproblems? I'm a relatively long-time reader of African descent and I'm not sure I understand which of this issues doesn't apply to me.

  6. Hi Adey! thanks for reading my blog :) I was referring to an internet meme about people with ridiculous privilege whining about stuff noth worth whining about (example: http://www.ownzee.com/attachments/photos/pic6/4e29e81e-181c-4cbd-8801-2b59cdbab12d.jpg). Do you feel like this is a racist statement? I would love to hear your opinion about it, I absolutely don't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. I can imagine you finding it racist because in a way it assumes that white people are the norm for privileged, upper class rich people... Let me know!
