Schoolboy

Sometimes it can be very nice to dress like a little schoolboy. A big part of finding true style is finding looks that go with your personality, your figure and your look. The most stylish girls I know are girls that have a real "look". Hair, make up, facial features, outfit: once it clicks, you know. You'll feel like you found yourself, and people will turn their heads if you walk by because you'll look like some enigmatic movie character.
Now, I'm not pretending I've found my style, but I do know what sort of looks work for me, and how I should wear a certain outfit. Maybe I just overthink things, but when I grab this short shirtdress, I immediately go for a boyish/college/all American look with windswept hair, oxford boots and a loose sweater to create that look. Fresh faced make up with a tiny bit of lipgloss and some mascara: hair and make up should look like you've been taking a walk with your hair blowing in the wind. Because I have skinny legs and not that much hip- or boobage, an androgynous look works for me. What also works: innocent, young, girly looks. These are the type of looks that I feel "work" on me, and the looks that make me feel like I look good. If I have to pick an era, it would be the sixties.
But I also know what sort of looks aren't my thing: hard, fierce looks, lots of leather, eighties inspirations, anything edgy-sexy. I might be able to pull these off based on my figure, but it just doesn't match my personality and I would feel awkward wearing them.
Do you have a clear image in your mind with regards to what "works" for you? Do you have a look you strive for?

PS: I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going for slightly shorter than my hair is now, that way I can go a while without a new haircut (I'm really lazy and cheap). And I'm getting OMBRE done!!!!!!! I'm super excited. Wish me luck!

PPS: did you take part in the ASOS contest? Ends tomorrow at noon! Here are some of my picks:

How awesome would it be if I'd win? Ha!

  7. I don't think I'll ever be one of those people who sticks with a look in particular, so much depends on my feeling in the moment, whether it's when I'm shopping or getting dressed. Lately I'm pretty much skirt/tucked-in top/cardigan/tights, but if I weren't so hampered by budget, it would be sequins and florals and bodycon and pretty much anything, all at once. I have a long button-up tunic similar to the one you're wearing here, and I tend to preppy it up every time I wear it.

  8. I tend to also not really stick with a given look - I definitely gravitate to certain looks (black, sort of gothy, classic feminine elements done in a kind of punk/edgy way) but I try to vary it by different things that are inspiring me that month/week. I do have a more set hair/makeup look though.

  15. The jumper is lovely. I know whatcha mean- I don't think I could pull off anything too sexy as I'd feel tremendously awkward in it. I'm not sure to define my style, sort of a mix of lots of things I guess. xx

  20. Hey, I totally love that bag you picked and also that striped midi skirt, I would pick these myself :)
And I just ADORE your look - it just about killed me! :) I think red is your colour, no doubt.
About my desired look: well, most of the time I just end up wearing something I don't even want to wear - usually because I overcombine things and then I can't decide and I have no time and I have to run for a bus or something and just grab the pieces closest to my hand :D But there are also days when I wake up with this very clear image of an outfit inside my head, I go to my wardrobe, put it on, I look gorgeous and I go out :D
Can't wait to see your new haircut! I'm sure it'll be perfect!

  25. This is a very cute look, and quite quintessentially you. It does have a great schoolboy vibe to it. But in a cute, feminine, way.

I don't know what my signature look would be--probably 80's, though, if I had to pick one. I think I tend to wear a lot of 80's-does garments in addition to straight-up 80's stuff. I think with my strong shoulders and short hair, it just works the best.

60's is all you though! So perfect :)

  26. I love that red jumper! The whole look jives well together.

2 of the things on your list are on my things-to buy-on-payday list!
the striped skirt and the brown polka dot dress. I wish Asos did more longer length stuff, or had a 'tall' section. Ah well, it's all lovely anyway.
