Jennifer's Body

I'm trying to wear light colors to keep the spring feeling going, even if the weather has been getting progressively sucky. I like how lightcolored tights and poofy skirts always remind me of ballerinas! And what girl doesn't want to be a ballerina? I bet ballet is going to get a lot less popular once all the moms have seen Black Swan. I haven't seen it myself yet, but I reckon it is cray-zay. Hence, I really want to see it! I'm not the hugest fan of Portman's acting abilities (I feel like she always overdoes it a bit, and she's so one-note), but this really looks like the role every actress dreams about playing one day, and the cinematography and theme almost reminds me of Dario Argento. I mean, just compare the posters:

Ok, not really the same, but check this, one of the sets of Suspiria:
Stylistically reminiscent, right? Argento always has amazing color and lighting in his movies. They are also campy horror, but totally artistically gorgeous.

Speaking of campy horror: I just watched Jennifer's Body.

Seriously why does everyone hate this movie? I mean, it isn't a great movie or anything, but it is entertaining enough and I love how it makes fun of itself and clichés without going all Scary Movie parody on our asses. And the social dynamic between the girls, the whole "frenemy" thing and the sexual tension totally works. Teenage girls are all a bit fucked up in their heads, and the realness of the characters could've been developed better, but I still found it thoroughly enjoyable. Also, Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried are total babes. I love horrormovies that play with "femaleness", like Carrie, Ginger Snaps and Rosemary's Baby (all three total recommendations and better than Jennifer's Body). Femininity can be both glorious and scary, not in the least for women themselves. So I love art that explores the darker parts of the feminine psyche.

I've basically recommended like 5 movies with this post, so I'm going to stop now! Suspiria is about girls too. I guess women are firmly associated with horrormovies? Why do you think that is?

  7. I can't gush enough about Black Swan. I'm a fan of Natalie Portman, but in all honesty she hasn't done a lot of truly great work. Until now. She will probably be forever know for this role, and though I loved Social Network it's a shame so much of the Golden Globes love went to it, since it's nowhere near as complex or visual as Black Swan.

The crazy thing is, Natalie Portman and her co-star Mila Kunis were both so freaking fantastic, and the next movie down the pipe for each are horrific looking romcoms about a guy and girl who are friends and end up sleeping together, causing complications and supposed hilarity. Two different movies, same stale plot, awful-looking trailers. I hope they both grab hard onto the coattails of their Black Swan accolades and ride them into better careers.

I wasn't a huge fan of jennifer's body, it wasn't bad, I just enjoyed making fun of it more than watching it haha.

  13. Such a great outfit. The colours are just marvelous, definitely spring-y. I enjoyed Jennifer's body too, as you said it was entertaining. Another film that deals with women, sexuality and horror (that is worth a viewing) is Teeth. Check it out if you haven't already.

  16. I think a lot of the times people use women in horror movies to satisfy a sexual fantasy that men have. It's actually quite irritating to me.

However, your outfit is beautiful and I love those tights and the light colors on you.
