Hey guys! This is what I ended up changing into yesterday. When I got out of bed the weather was gorgeously sunny and it looked nice and warm outside, but when I stepped outside to take pictures I could SEE my breath in the cold January air, so I changed in the look you see above. I'll be wearing this springier version of the look below when the sun gains a bit of strength!
Just the right amount of dowdy!
I sort of really like it, I've had this skirt for a month or something but hadn't gotten around to showing you guys yet! I bought it for 2 euros at my favorite second hand shop, T2. I like how the right amount of poof around the hips makes it seem as if I really have an hourglass figure. And you guys already know I'm crazy about this skirtlength: I just can't stop dressing like Peggy Olson! I'm thinking of pushing myself out of this retro comfortzone by trying to style the midiskirts a bit more fashion forward come spring, but I'm still completely smitten with these slightly retro, classic looks, so you'll have to bare with me as I will be dressing like this until I'm sick of it!
I'm a tough cookie to crack: I don't fall in love easily. Not with guys, not with trends, not with style icons. I told you guys before I wasn't sold on the whole Alexa Chung thing right away, and look at me now: I'm dreaming of her haircut. I'm still going back and forth about getting my hair ombre-dyed. I actually used to have ombre hair because my dyejob grew out (ha, the ORIGINAL ombre crew yo), and I loved it back then. I was 16 and fresh as daisies:
The girl on the left is still one of my very best friends, and our styles have evolved like CRAZY since then. It's always nice to look from time to time. I wouldn't like having to wear my clothes from back then again, but I would love my hair to look as cool as it did when these pictures were taken! It looked fierce, I'm not afraid to say it myself. I loved it and it's one of my very favorite hairlooks I've ever had, but until I saw Alexa's hair I never thought my prefered shorter hairstyles would be compatible with the faded ends look. Praise Alexa!
Doesn't she look amazing? I'd like my hair to be slightly shorter than it is now, and it would be straighter than Alexa's. I did a really horrible photoshopjob on myself to see what it would look like. I'll let you join in on the fun:
If you squint your eyes real hard, it ALMOST looks real. Do you like it? Gosh, I hate people that piss and moan about something as silly as hair, but I'm just as bad. But that's normal, right? Don't you guys ever photoshop a new haircut on your face to see what it'll look like? Or am I really one of the worst crazy people out there?
Anyway, I still need more feedback: convince me to do it or not to do it! I think the grunge will pose a nice contrast to my sweet, girly style, since I'm not that supersweet girly type AT ALL personalitywise. And I should have a few crazy haircuts now that I'm still young and not working in a place that demands a "professional" hairdo. But will it look nice with my style? Won't I look cheap and skanky? Isn't my solid color hairdo a stronger look? I'm in limbo here, ladies! Make me snap out of it, I'm pissing myself off!
I promised you guys my spacenail tutorial, but I only have pictures of the finished result so I'll just talk you guys through it and take pictures of the process step by step next time I do it! My version:
this is the original space naildo I found while browsing the web:
I followed this tutorial and it worked out amazingly, I just changed her method of using a folded piece of paper towel for the dabbing into using a piece of sponge, gives it more of a glittery finish. I cut up one of those cleaning sponges you use to do the dishes or clean your dirty bathtub. Don't worry, I used a fresh one. The tutorial is super easy, and all you need is a very dark blue/black base color, a glitter nailpolish (or two different ones if you want maximum texture), and a middle color to create the nebula-esque effect. I used a metalic light purple that ended up looking a bit too shimmery and not very spacelike at all (and quite different from the example in the tutorial), but I still like the way it looks. One thing I'd change is not to dab as much of the purple on, but it still looks rad and it's SUPER easy.
1) paint your nails in solid black/very dark blue
2) give it a first coat of fine shimmery silver glitter
3) dab on some of the medium colored nebula (purple, blue or even greenish would work nicely)
4) final coat of multicolored glitters
Be sure to let every layer dry for a while before putting on the next layer!
Give it a try and let me know if it worked out! My post is long enough as it is, so no movie recommendation of the day. Though you're allowed to watch the movie from my post title, Liar Liar. I adore Jim Carrey.

I really like the coat with the outfit anyway, it looks very elegant.
ReplyDeleteI think go for the hairdye. It is fun to experiment and if you don't like it you can just dye it back.

You have to dye your hair. I can't take it anymore. I love the cut you have, but I think you're right. It would be lovely to grunge it out a bit. Do it, already. I know, it's midnight, you can't make the appointment. FIRST THING Monday. I'll be checking in on your progress....
ReplyDeleteaww just noticed the pretty floral shirt, lovely. And look at you with your ombre hair, so ahead of the world. Nails look amazing too, i really love it must try it soon

I think the Alexa Chung styling thing would look well on you because you are nearly the same type of woman. They have a styling feature from her in the German InStyle magazine this month. And as I read it I had to think of you..haha.
ReplyDeletelove your skirt. And I think the faded ends-look would look great on you! You should do it!

I think it would look great on you if you switch to the Alexa hair or the grunge type. I have not tried to Photoshop myself with shorter do. I really had a very long hair before and I just decided to take a leap of faith and cut it really short. I keep looking into the mirror wanting to change the person looking back at me.
ReplyDeleteHair will always grow and change is healthy. :)

I think you should go for it! (the hair) It looks great on Alexa, and I see some sort of resemblance between you two so it will probably look good on you too :)

that coat and those starry nails are stellar!
ReplyDeleteI love your retro styling, it's gorgeous! It looks pretty classy with the fur collar, and that green shoes give it a funny twist, I like it!
ReplyDeleteAs to your hair: as I said before, I don't like the ombre style and I think your hair looks better the way it is now, but I'm afraid my opinion is gonna be totally outshouted :D
Have a lovely Sunday
Andrea
when I had shorter hair I was like: cut it, it will always grow back. but since I want longer hair, I'm so protectable about any centimeter :D and I watch other girls hair and think: will I ever have such a beautiful hair like her??
ReplyDeletei love this H&M faux fur collar. it adds such a luxe look to the outfit. and i really love what you did with the nails. definitely do a tutorial next time!
ReplyDeletecute and little

So cute! That fur coat looks amazingly soft and warm. And the awesome pair of shoes returns :) I like the spring version of the outfit a lot too, especially the green platforms! The space nail look seems really simple to do and it looks fab, I'll have to try it when my current polish wears off. Hmmm your hair looks really cute in the teenage years, but I like your color right now! I don't think you should change it :) http://thearcenciel.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteLove that skirt! I saw its red twin at the thrift shop the other day... I wonder if it's still there? :)
ReplyDeleteI think you should go for it with the hair! And hey, if you hate it, just cut the ends off. You look great with short hair anyway!
Good luck with your decision :D
M xo
That's the point! :-) Ik heb al een paar zwarte (enkel)laarsjes die zo gigantisch hoog zijn. En ik vind dat je keihard je haar op z'n Alexa's moet laten doen!
ReplyDeleteyou look great and your nailpolish issss amazing

The skirt, stocking, and shoes especially look so great together!!
ReplyDeleteDie nagels zijn geweldig babe echt knap!
ReplyDeleteIk vind je rok op deze outfit echt geweldig, hij staat je heel mooi xxx

You look very chic with that fur collar and I think you would look good with that hairstyle, you should try it! :D

I am in LOVE with that skirt, just has the most perfect shape for you! I think this whole look is just spot on, down to the make up (which is beautiful!)
ReplyDeleteweren't you a cutie back then already ^^ seriously: ik had je niet herkent :D (je ziet er veel volwassener uit nu en mjah: das normaal)
ReplyDeleteanyhow: go for the ombre hair ^^ ik ben het momenteel ook gewoon aan het laten uitgroeien... al weet ik niet of het even goed is met superblond op minderblond dan die twee kleuren zoals Alexa... LOVE IT :)
Bedankt voor de tutorial! Ga ik zeker eens proberen!
