No, the title doesn't refer to me (yet!).
My brother and his longtime girlfriend have been on holiday in America to visit my other brother (he married an Arkansas girl) and APPARENTLY they just tied the knot in Vegas!!! I found out on facebook, how sad is that? To be fair, he did send me an email, but I checked facebook first. I'm sort of really sad right now, we've always been very close as kids and now that he lives in another country (Holland, while I live in Belgium) we don't see each other that often anymore, and now he even got married without me :( But I'm superglad for them, of course. They love each other dearly and they are very good together. She brings out the best in him, and what more can a person ask for? And he had always told me he wanted to get married in Vegas, so I can't say I'm that surprised.
They looked very gorgeous too
In all fairness, this is a horrible picture of my brother because he's a hot dude. I just really love my sister in law's (!!!!) cute little sixties dress! I couldn't bare him marrying anyone un-stylish, of course. They have my consent. They look like stylish scandinavian people, don't they? :D
To honor their holy matrimony, I wore something wedding-appropriate today myself!
In retrospect, I really hate these tights with the outfit. They look so "heavy" with the rest. I should've gone for sheer or light grey or something, but despite the beautiful sun, it was still too cold for sheer tights. And I didn't think of light grey, so there. Maybe they represent a bit of my mourning for not being able to pick up some bridesmaid duties on my brother's wedding! A friend cheered me up by promising to let me be her maid of honor if she ever gets married. She's such a cool chick <3
Do you guys have any intention of getting married? I do. I totally do. I want to have a loooong engagement and then getting married someplace outside, in the sun, in the summer, and having a party in a garden with lights hanging from trees etcetera, all enchanting and shiz! I have no idea what I want my wedding dress to look like, though. To be more precise, I have like a gajillion ideas what I want my wedding dress to look like, but I can't narrow it down! I want to let all these ideas stew in my brain to have them evolve in the ULTIMATE dream weddinggown. I do know I'd like a pale color like lilac, but cream or ivory is ok too. And I'd like simple lines (no poofy princessdresses pour moi) and sleeves (I hate all those typical corset+poofy skirt wedding dresses, isn't getting married about finding that uniquely YOU dress instead of looking like every other bride?). And maybe flowers in my hair. But that's it! So if you have some tips or ideas, feel free to share! I've had this wedding inspiration folder on my pc for AGES. This makes me sound like a superromantic girl, but before things got serious with my boyfriend I had never even dreamed about getting married or anything like that. It wasn't exactly high on my priority list, but when you meet that person you just want to celebrate your love.
And to keep with the theme, MOVIE RECOMMENDATION OF THE DAY: The Graduate
Actually, I saw this movie when I was like 15 or something so I don't remember it very well, but I do remember I LOVED the music (Simon and Garfunkel <3) and that it was both fun and profoundly melancholic, and quite smart without getting pretentious. If that isn't enough to convince you, I don't know what is! I should totally watch it again myself sometime. The ending is iconic and one of the best in film history. I do love coming of age movies, they always offer you a deeper insight in human nature.

I love your dress and the contrast of those tights with it! Congrats to your brother and his wife!
ReplyDeletewhat a pretty outfit, so 70s floral goddess. what is your nailpolish?
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, although I would eventually like to get married, I have never wanted or envisioned a wedding.
love this...the movement in the dress is so cool! and the belt....ahh i die! gorgeous
ReplyDeletewhat you're wearing kinda reminds me of what my mom wore to her wedding. So lovely!
ReplyDeleteI helped a bride pick out her wedding jewelry today, and it totally made me nostalgic for all that fun wedding stuff. I had the lights in the trees outside and a simple dress with some fun sparkle. Twas perfect. I bet your brother will want to have a big party with his family sometime, and then you can get your fill of sisterly duties!

It's too bad you couldn't be there for your brother, but it sounds like it really was something he wanted to do. They look so cute together! I love this dress on you, it's such a lovely print and fit and the brown accesories are so perfect.
ReplyDeleteI plan on getting married someday, very long engagement too, very small outdoor ceremony. Loads of flowers everywhere, a vintage dress.

What a beautiful post annebeth! And what a shocker title :D I really was liek: what!? :D 'cause I first thought it was you standing in front of a las vegas wedding chapel :D
ReplyDeleteYou know how much I love your dress and the pictures you took are so shinning, just like in summer!
I totally agree with you about the wedding dress. Those puffy cinderella dresses suck!! I loved my sister dress, it was simple lined and light! Without any corsets and petticoats. Here it is: http://flickr.com/gp/candy_la_pop/2AKa03
have a great Weekend!
I really really love this outfit of yours. THe dress is so gorgeous as well as the boots with it.
ReplyDeleteThat is sad to find out about your brother getting married through facebook. he should have called you about it instead or told you in person before telling the rest of the world. . .but alas, everyone is so different.
I got married when I was 20 (started dating him at 16). As for long engagements. . I was pre-engaged at 17 and engaged at 18. . so I had a pretty long engagement that probably would have gone on even longer but I'm glad it didn't. . .because we probably would have married as soon as possible (saving money is a pain). We've been married close to 7 years now. I didn't really like my wedding that much since we couldn't afford what we really wanted, but for what it was, the ceremony was great and I loved what we wore, but the reception stunk and we didn't know what to do for a honeymoon so we went to a place that also stunk (not in the smelly sense though). I really really really want to get married again (renewing our vows). We'd do so much differently (except the fact that we'd still get married haha).
I LOVE this post :D I LOVE the second picture of your outfit mostly and I agree about the black tights, but hey it IS cold these days ^^
ReplyDeleteAs for the marriage: WOW for her gown ^^ and yes I do believe your brother is handsome. AND THEN besides my commitment issues... (hate them) I totally want to get married :D I just want to experience that and most of all (how could it not be one of the important things, after obvously the partner): I WANT a wedding dress :) I prefer one like this one: http://tiny.cc/foko6 okay maybe I really want it to be even more poofy, but something like that (especially the shoulder-thingies are so flattering). At the moment the dress is all I can fantasize about, since I lack a partner ^^
ANYHOW: GREAT blogpost ^
BEAUTIFUL dress!!! You look so pretty! x
