Kitty Purrrrr

I'm going to try this new thing where my pictures are bigger, be sure to let me know whether you like it or not!

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK STOOPID OR COOL?

I've been working on an essay about advertisements for alcoholic beverages, ethical practices and the lot. Very interesting. I love learning about the ethical side of advertising. Might sound super boring to most people, but I feel like ethics are often overlooked. People are too lazy to actually make their own minds do the work and think for themselves about what is acceptable or not. We choose to be jaded, to let other people tell us what we should find deplorable or applaudable. I like making up my own mind about things, I'm an opinionated brat like that :-D

So DO let me know your opinion about THE PICTURES
And about my outfit. I don't wear this teeny tiny cat dress that I got from my mom for my 19th birthday nearly enough. I love the print but it's SO DANG SHORT! I always pick an oversized cardigan or longer coat to go over it when I wear it out, just in case it rides up. And flats. I mean, it's not a hoochy dress at all but it's SO DANG SHORT. So I went for flats and denim to keep it easy going, and cats + leopard is totally logical, right?

Am I an overreacting prude for feeling selfconscious about the length? What are your garment-ethical opinions on this?

dress, jacket: H&M
bag, flats: Zara

  3. It's not too short, it's just right. I love this outfit, cat print = so awesome. The bigger pictures are good too :)

  4. I'm new to your blog but I think the big pictures are great because you can see more detail but ultimately its about what you like best and feel more comfy with, right?

In regards to the length, I wouldn't worry so much about it if I were you. The dress is not tight or even fitted so that eliminates most of the "hoochy" possibilities. Also, it's not revealing in the bust area AND with an innocent kitty print, you couldn't be hoochy if you tried! :D

  10. I think the dress looks fine, but there always is that odd moment with shorter dresses when you want to raise your arms over your head and suddenly wonder if that's a good idea or not...

Oh, and bigger is always better with blog photos, IMO.

Oh, and I agree that we're not necessarily "in style." But maybe within the blogging community we kind of are, hence fueling consumerism. Hmmm, I might have to do my own ranty post on the subject...

  13. If it feels too short I'm always worried about showing my butt. I never want to be that girl who can see the crease in her thigh when she walks because her skirt is too short!! But I definitely wear shorter things than most people... just if I feel like my butt is falling out then I have to wear something under it and call it a shirt.

  14. Seriously ADORE this outfit!! So cute!! And I'm in a Media Ethics class also! It is so interesting!!

  15. I don't think it's too short at all, but if it were me and I was feeling a bit uncomfortable, I'd wear a pair of spandex bike shorts underneath :) Then there's no worries! Love the dress, it's so fun!

  16. that kitty dress is so adorable on you!!

  17. The print on your dress is the most adorable thing! I love kitties and this dress is perfect. And I also think that it is a good length- not too short but also very fun and playful. xoxo

  24. I have a dress like that from H&M too in a different print and yeah, it's pretty darn short. I can't even sit in it without my bare bum touching the chair. And by bare I mean with underwear:) hehee.. Anyways, you do a good job at making this "appropriate". I love it with the leopard flats.

Oh and you ought to check out my giveaway:) I think you'd like the necklace I'm giving away!

  28. it is a simple dress, but the cut is again phenomenal. the right length and i love the little sleeves. perfect combination with the loafers, although it is a clash of the prints, it looks spectacular. the jeans is just perfect because it is kind of a light color

    ReplyDelete
  29. Haha, I don't see any correlation between clothing and ethics at all really. I think it's pretty much a) are you comfortable? b) are you going to make other people uncomfortable? c) do you care if you're going to make other people uncomfortable?

All of that said, because it's such a sweet dress, it really doesn't seem hoochie at all.

And I love the big pictures! And the leopard flats... so meta ;)

PS did you see my you-inspired look?

  30. I DONT THink it looks too short, youve got the legs so flaunt them. love the print and your bag is wonderful! also the pics look fine bigger :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm a bit prudish about length - if I think something is too short I often wear another skirt/dress underneath to add a bit of extra length! But that said this outfit does look great on you, and the print on the dress is very cute.

Bigger pictures are the way forward - fill the blank space!

  32. Love the leopard paired with the print on the dress. Leopard can be paired with almost anything and look amazing.

    *X* Anastasia
    PS: Ik leef terug haha!

  36. I love it!

  40. I really like the bigger pictures. And I love cat prints. I was called "the girl with the cat printed clothes" in school because I had so many cat printed stuff like shirts, dresses etc.
Ethics is so important, you're right. I think ethics is something which is needed to put a society together without any chaos or something. But sometimes I think that in special themes mankind has no space for ethics like food habits etc.

  42. I agonised over whether to buy this dress, but eventually decided it against it... Now that I see it on you, I absolutely regret it! You look wonderful, and you styled the dress perfectly :) Personally I liked larger photos, but that's mainly because I don't see particularly well- I know really large sizes sometimes interfere with blog formatting :)

  44. I think the larger photos are great. I get to see your outfit even better! I also don't think this dress is actually all that short... I mean, it doesn't LOOK deplorably short or anything. It's cute. I'd probably rock the dress and jacket with some red shoes, but that's just me ;)

  45. hehe zou kunnen :p silly me :p x

  46. Wat een schattig jurkje! En ik heb nog steeds spijt dat ik die schoenen niet gekocht heb!

  47. I have the same dress - http://kittenhood.wordpress.com/2011/03/06/cat-prints/ (fourth pic) - but I thought it was a blouse, cause it's too short to be a dress :) mine is 1-2 sizes bigger than my normal size and it's still too short! Add a belt to it and it's even shorter :))
    love your styling!

  48. Your whole look and style is amazing, i'm totally loving your hair. Those flats are perfection too I love leopard!!

  49. I like the new photo size! More details = yay. And I'm really feeling that dress... I don't think it's too short, but then again, I wear shorts underneath everything so I don't really care.
