Sugary Sweet

Since my style has gotten less trendy and more vintage/retro oriented, I feel like I'm treading this fine line between cute outfits and looking like a character from a period piece. I usually hate it when people look like they're wearing a costume rather than actual clothes, but sometimes it's fun to take it up a notch and just go with the flow of a piece. I got this dress a while back (see me wear it here) from an awesome seller on etsy for only 14 euros, which is insane for a flawless, genuine 50's piece like this one. So today I went all the way with a cute hairbow, ballet flats and my box purse! Enjoy :-)

I just bought the PERFECT vintage crinoline on Etsy yesterday and I cannot wait for it to arrive so I can wear it with this dress among  others. I just know I'll spend my whole day swishing around and cooing about how pretty it is!

BEAUTIFUL, right? I might even wear it sans dress or skirt layered over it because it is so pretty as is!

I finished a few articles for my internship over the past few days. I was pretty happy with most of them but I knew one of my articles could be better. I sent em in anyway to get some feedback and I was SO happy to get the exact feedback I expected to get. It really is an awesome feeling to work for someone who understands the way you think, and vice versa. My boss gave me some pointers and now I'm completely happy with the article. I just feel I'm going to be learning so much from my internship!

  8. Looking lovely! I know exactly what you mean, but dressing vintage in a style of a certain era may look costumey at time. That's just the risk, but I'd rather look like this than plain boring.

  9. Wowwie, superleuke outfit! Dat strikje in je haar is om op te eten! Too cute.. Erg mooi jurkje trouwens, nice deal!

Ik vind het echt tof dat je je haar altijd zo verschillend doet! Hoewel ik gezegend ben met lange lokken kan ik er echt niet veel mee aanvangen. Ben niet zo'n kapsel-creatieveling.. Los, staart of vlecht: that's it! Misschien moet jij me eens lesgeven in getting-your-hair-effortlessly-pretty!

  14. I think you look gorgeous, not like a character at all! The dress is so pretty. I know what you mean though, I like the retro/vintage look too and try to do it my way and not to OTT. I have a rule 'no more than 1 bow per outfit' haha. xxx

  15. Since I wear vintage & thrifted items every day I also struggle with the cute/costume factor to-- if a dress is particularly vintage looking I'll wear modern accessories to tone it down. I think you look perfect here, love the big hair bow!

  18. Today I concluded that you can do no wrong. You are so much girlier than me and a lot more vintage-oriented, yet I'm so fascinated by the way you dress. Fantastic!

  21. Oh my! I too would be swooshing around in that crinoline. It'll definitely give dresses that nice little flirty pop.

I think being "less trendy" actually makes us more creative with our individual style. We are more able to explore and experiment. :)

  27. You. Look. Stunning. Super love this, and I don't think it looks too costumey, mainly because you've kept your hair and shoes quite normal. I also dislike it when people look too much like they're recreating a 1950s magazine look.

I meant to ask you before what you internship is, if you're spilling the beans online that is! ; )

  38. That crinoline is wonderful! Such a pretty dress too! It's a really classic shape, so I don't think it's to costumey at all. You look adorable in this outfit! I love it!

  39. I feel the same about costumes vs. fashion. I for instance love the Goth Loli trend because I love all things Japanese, but I would never want to look like that (it's only cute on little Asian goth girls). I prefer a personal mix of things rather than just staying 'in character'. The crinoline is adorbz! I'm so busy with my internship too at the mo', so good luck and be sure to let us know when we can read any of your articles! x
