Lilacs and a bit of Serious Saturday

Another day, another one of my T2 lovelies. I picked up this dress but I wasn't really sure why I did: the color was very soft and pale while I usually go for strong hues, the dress was at least 3 sizes too big and the print almost reminded me of granny curtains. However, I loved the fabric, the way the color looked on me and the silhouette: even though it was way too big, I could see the potential. T2 was having their sale again so I snapped it up for a few euros, anxious to see what I could make it into. And here we are! I took in the seams and wore it with a belt et voila, lovin' it.

Simple, retro, feminine and very me. Phew, a relief after yesterday's very UN-me outfit! :-D I feel like this would be a perfect outfit for a wide range of outings: a walk in the countryside, a picnic, strolling down the docks of some chic beach town or sipping a cocktail in a bar with the sunshine piercing through my panama hat casting dots of light on my face. Too much imagination? MOI? Hey, if you don't have money to travel all around the globe, your mind has to take you places!

Btw sorry for my washed out face, this picture was taken the day before my last exam and I was KNACKERED! I'm one of those people whose face always shows even the tiniest lack of sleep. Yeay for under eye dark circle coverage!

Enjoy your weekend babes!

PS: really pissed off about the way the media have been reporting about Dominique Strauss-Kahn and his victim. She "supposedly" lied and had a phone call with a friend in prison right after the rape. But when you get the facts straightened out, it turns out that she "lied" about rape to be able to flee her native country in order to save her daughter from female genital mutilation, and the friend in prison was just there for some crap regarding marihuana (ohnoes!). I don't see any fucking relevance with regards to the DSK case or how this would make her an unreliable witness. I hate how the media frame this shit to imply things by leaving things out. By being very vague about the facts they plant the thought in our minds that she lied in her testimony to the police with regards to the DSK case, while her lies had to do with her past as a refugee. It is an understatement when I say I am infuriated. Rape culture wins again.

Thoughts?

Interesting article on the matter here.

edit: Some people have been saying they don't know who to believe and that it would be horrible if she was lying because DSK's career has been destroyed. I was thinking the same things when the whole bs started out. However, if a guy starts out denying ever having been in a room, lying about an alibi of being at a restaurant with his daughter, but takes back those words after his sperm has been found, and tries to twist things into "it was consensual!" it comes across as PRETTY condemning to me. Also, they've found FORENSIC evidence (scratches on his chest presumably of the woman defending herself and the traces of sperm) against him. None of that against the woman, no, they have just found out she's lied once years ago to escape her home country. I am disgusted.

  7. Die jurk heeft een mooie print vind ik. Speciaal kleurtje ook dat je niet zo vaak tegen komt :) great find dus !

    About the whole DSK-thing..

  8. Hello lady.
Love that your wearing your belt back to front. I do this ALL THE TIME. And didn't notice the exam face ... thought you look lovely & fresh. In regards to the media story, I'm not familar with the story. But we recently had some 'Slut Walks' here in Australia, which were in protest against rape culture & that women bring it on themselves by dressing 'slutty' & not being supported as victims.

  18. Omgod, you're so right. I mean, come on, what the hell are they talking about? I hate him. Dominique Strauss-Kahn is an asshole and that is the case. Same here in Greece, the media reported the story in a horrible way. I don't know what to say. Europe is so fucked up at the moment. Or maybe it's just Greece :(

You look gorgeous, btw. You always do :)

  19. I agree with you 100%. The media is portraying this in a stereotypical female victim blaming sort of way. I think it is important to talk about issues like this so thanks for bringing it up. And...loving the dress! Summer time perfect my dear. Have a wonderful Sunday :-) xx

  20. Love this dress, so perfect for the summertime. And especially with that straw hat :)
From what I've heard about that case, it sounds pretty ridiculous that they're dropping the charges against him, it's because of his position

  24. I haven't really been following it in depth, but the case does interest me. I just think it's highly suspicious how conveniently his career was effectively ended over this, especially with the right-wing way Europe is heading at the moment. Two main thoughts:
    1. I was highly skeptical when I heard about her phone call and connections to international drug rings or whatever. Even if she was a frickin' heroine mule, we have to understand that poor people end up in all sorts of situations they wouldn't choose for themselves.
    2. Even if he's a major sleazeball, and it sounds like he is, couldn't it maybe be better to have a private-life sleazeball in power whose other policies are progressive rather than another four years of Sarkozy? I'm always unpopular when I suggest these things, but for example, I think American Apparel Sleazeball dude's good work for labour standards and recognizing illegal immigrants does, for me, go a long way towards making up for his sleaziness. I don't expect you to agree, since women's politics seem to be your big interest, but I guess I'd take a bit of bad to accomplish a lot of good.

Oh, and Julian Assange was totally set up. I think that whole media circus is cynically harnessing women's natural outrage whenever the world "rape" shows up.

    Gah, sorry for rant!
