What is it about me that is so attracted to several prints mixed in one outfit? I'm totally going to be one of those horribly dressed old ladies everyone laughs at, but I'll still look fierce as F* in my mind's eye! Is that what really matters? The way we perceive ourself? Or should we keep a healthy view on ourselves by keeping in mind what other people might think when we're striding down our sidewalk slash catwalk in floral dresses, bright red tights and leopard shoes?
My boyfriend noted that most of the drivers that were moving towards us while we were walking to the supermarket were checking us out. I jokingly said that I DID notice his hair looking particularly fluffy that day, but he was convinced people were staring at my tights. I don't even notice it that much when people look at me while I walk by, but I must admit that it happens a lot. A less secure person might take this as an insult, as if the staring eyes are all screaming "YOU LOOK LIKE A DAMN FOOL GURL", but I'm sufficiently in love with my own clothes that I take every single lingering glance as a compliment. People notice me, and I don't mind being noticed.
Why would I want to be just another face in the crowd? Every single person has their own unique personality, so it would be silly for us to all look as if we don't. So I will be wearing an extra print tomorrow, and even brighter red tights. Because I'm worth it!
University is such a style liberation front. The whole thing of opinions being relative as opposed to absolute (philosophy for the win!) has made getting dressed without any type of fear so much easier. Who cares what the next person thinks when their opinion doesn't bare any absolute truth to begin with? I say FEH to you, ma'm! In my universe I look perfectly normal! I'm starting to sound a bit mental now, no? Time to stop typing.
dress, loafers: zara
tights: pimkie
I have to admit that these loafers are borderline ridiculous, even for me. But I like borderline ridiculous, just like Rihanna likes her S S S S

PS: if there are any young(14-18), dutch speaking girls reading this, drop me a line! I need your help for my bachelorpaper at Uni! :D
pretty floral dress - so cute!!
ReplyDeleteBorderline ridiculous - the right side of the border if you ask me ;)
ReplyDeleteI think I like this universe of yours. Bright tights are such fun. When I first started wearing them nobody else around here was. I got some really nice genuine comments in the real world and little miss prim girls turned their noses up and pulled smirking "why you re brave" backhanders. Now almost everbody has at least a couple of colours other than black in their closet hehe not as bright as this though - it'll always take a confident girl in her own universe to rock these. Great look :)
your universe is way betta than most people's! and I loooove the loafers :)
ReplyDeleteI love the loafers with the red tights!

I love your dress, and that lace collar is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteFrom Carys of La Ville Inconnue
I'm almost annoyed that the coloured tights are so "in" now (at least in London). I was definitely one of about 5 people in Vancouver rocking them a few years ago (another was my sister). And while I got snide looks from girls, I generally got hungry looks from men (not that that's what it's about, but it doesn't hurt once in awhile.) : D
ReplyDeleteYour prints and colours are the best! Looking forward to tomorrow's even brighter installment!
I love the prints and colours together!! Lots of prints are the best thing ever. I love this on you. Boderline ridiculous is good, being comfortable and liking your own clothes is much more important that what others think for sure

not ever borderline silly, really i love it! if i saw you walking down the street i'd stare :) in the good way with a little bit of awe. oh and im seriously in love with this dress of yours. xo
ReplyDeleteI love your red tights! Take those stares at a complement, they're thinking "Wow, I could never pull that off as stylishly as she does!"
ReplyDeleteLa Petite Marmoset
I would be staring for sure if I saw you walking down the road...and smiling the whole time. I LOVE it when girls care about their fashion voice and wear things that make them look and feel good. You, my dear, look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteXOXO
They had that dress in that colour? Darn, I'm so sad I missed it! So pretty with the red tights! Your loafers are amazing, not ridic at all.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I love those loafers, they are pure awesome :D
ReplyDeleteand yes, who cares if people stare! It's because you look awesome :)

I love the florals+red tights so much. Great outfit.
ReplyDeleteUp until last fall, I lived in a town in the middle of nowhere and people wore North Face jackets because they were "fashionable." They all thought I was weird with my dresses and high-waisted skirts with tights.

I love that dress and the combo of prints, they go together sooo well! I had my portion of stares last week when I was wearing my bright yellow tights, but I also tend to take it as a compliment, so what the heck! It makes me sad seeing bunches of girls who dress without imagination and then look down on people who actually want to stand out. So I say: more mixed prints, more bright tights, more courage! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the dress and the shoes. You are really good at playing with colors. Even if you mix some bright or different colors, somehow you don't look too much.
ReplyDeleteLove your style and your blog!!
Fantastic way of pairing prints. I love going a step forward and dare.
ReplyDeleteThere are enough boring people in the world hehehe.
Have a wonderful Sunday.

Ik vind ook dat je je vooral voor jezelf moet kleden en als mensen willen staren dan doen ze dat maar :) we kunnen wel wat kleur gebruiken trouwens!

aaah, ik ben helemaal verliefd op die schoenen!
ReplyDeleteI noticed the same. When you dress up like everyone else no one is watching you..but as soon as you mix something unconventional or wear special fashionable things which are not mainstream people stare at you. I always think people who stare or talk behind your back have their own problems with themselves. People who are total comfortable with all don't stare..they don't care about you and your outfit.
ReplyDeleteEcht een prachtige outfit, zou het zo zelf aandoen!
ReplyDeletethe print combo is lovely! and bright red tights are nothing to be afraid of :)
ReplyDeleteGeweldig! Die loafers zijn zo leuk met dat rood:)

ReplyDeleteLove it! It's one of my life goals to be one of those old ladies who dresses like a fierce devil-may-care vixen. Yesss.
ReplyDeleteI get lots of looks when I walk down the street in my town too, people are just surprised to see young women wearing something other than ill-fitting jeans or pajama/sweatpants ;)
