Kubrick's Lolita

Was my inspiration today. I bought this dress at mango a couple of days ago because I loved the full skirt with the lining and the conservative neckline. Along with the ultra thin and light fabric, this dress immediately seemed perfect for a hot day when you don’t feel like showing TOO much, but you still want to keep cool.

The innocent, almost childlike print and neckline combined with the full short skirt and the nipped in waist reminded me of Kubrick’s lolita in a non-literal way (gingham is a bit TOO literal if you ask me :D), so it felt natural to pair this dress with my heart shaped glasses and my simple wedges. The entire look feels a bit like what Lolita would’ve worn if Humbert would’ve taken her to St. Tropez! hahaha
These shoes are pretty much the most comfortable non-flats I own: the platform is huge but the real height difference between the ball of my foot and my heel is pretty small so it feels like walking on clouds while still adding a girly height! I tried to implement the Lolita feel in my poses too: bored and coquettish. Hope I got it right!
ALSO: my cat disappeared for a day and two nights and we were worried sick. This morning my boyfriend heared meow-ing on the roof of the neighbours and he got on their roof (he’s such a hero) and found our cat! She had gotten stuck under a roof and he went back to ask the neighbours if he could look in their attic and the moment he got there (around the time I started typing this entry), our cat was meowing at the door! I’m so happy she’s back, I love all our three cats dearly. I immediately gave her lots of food and water and cuddles, haha
Now my boyfriend and I our going to have our traditional sunday breakfast with boiled eggs and fresh bread!

My platform wedges are the best non-flats I own too, I am looking for some more with a bit more "zing" to them.. something in maybe a hot pink!! Ha!

I am glad your kitty is safe, when they take off like that for a day or so it is a huge worry and you only ever think the worse. But yours is safe that's good news!! :D

  7. How did you manage to do that btw :D hahaha

I don't really think they're dowdy but maybe a bit classic? A bit safe? And thus a tiny bit dowdy? :D Which makes them a quirky touch for an eye catching dress! :D

  14. The movie isn't half as good as the book and I actually prefer the more recent adaptation with Dominique Swain and Jeremy Irons. Is more faithful to the atmosphere of the book imo.
