Oi babes! I was asked to put together a festival-outfit for an upcoming feature on the website of one of our national newspapers (AWESOMENESS), so I thought I'd share the result with you guys! It's been a while since I've visited a festival: last time was two years ago. I always loved Werchter and Pukkelpop, seen some amaaazing artists there: The Who, Monster Magnet, Tool, Metallica, Kanye West, Rammstein, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, Faith No More, the White Stripes, Coldplay and many more. I used to be quite a frequent concert/festival goer in my days back when I was a young'un (ha!), so I have some tricks up my sleeve. My outfit ended up looking more 70s-80s cheerleader than rockchick, but I guess that's what you get when you ask a girl with thoroughly retro, girly style to go truly casual!
NOW WHO'S GOT SPIRIT?
(hint: I do!)
I'll be sure to let you know when the feature is up! I wrote a little post to go along with it too but it was in Dutch, so I'm going to try and replicate it a bit ova hiya!
My tips to survive a festival sans sacrificing style.
Tip numero uno: if you are like me, you're one of those girls who wants to be at the centre of the action, which means you'll be stalking the artists as close to the stage as you can get. This means you'll risk getting thrown around a bit by even crazier fans than you, so I suggest wearing shoes with closed toes unless you don't mind losing a few toenails. Converse Allstars are basically as classic a piece as a Chanel suit, so you'll need a pair of those on your shoeshelf. I've had mine for years and I still pull them out now and then because, let's face it, they are awesome!
Tip numero dos: lord knows I love skirts and dresses, but let's face it: you don't want to be pulling down your skirt every time you jump to the music, so shorts are the way to go. Comfortable, practical and kinda sexy without trying too hard: denim cutoffs were my obvious choice. And the vintage Levis totally go with the allstars, right? Retro classics!
Tip numero tres: since Belgian weather is as fickle as Lindsay Lohan's sexual orientation, I suggest you prepare for rain, sun and everything in between, so LAYER UP! I went for overknee socks because they are really easy to put on or take off: if it gets too hot, just pull em down or take em off entirely. Jam em in your pockets and you have an ENTIRELY NEW OUTFIT! Okay no you just took off your socks, but you will be prepared for climate changes. A cardigan to keep you warm while sitting outside your tent for nighttime drunken chats with your mates is a good option as well. If I were you I'd also pack a thin raincoat, but I didn't picture that one because mine fits like a fugly tent.
Tip numero cuatro: add some of your individual style with accessories! My heartshaped glasses are basically my trademark and since they are so crazy they go with NOTHING and EVERYTHING at the same time. No surprise they look wicked with this particular combination as well. And sunglasses are a must anyway, unless you want to be squinting to be able to spot your favorite singer.
Now, just remember to bang that head and have loads of fun! And stay away from the drugs! Unless that floats your boat! Just be responsible OKEY! And drink a lot, but not too much or you'll be needing to use those awful mobile loo thingies all too often! Traumatic experience, don't ask.
Tshirt: H&M
shorts: Levis (T2 vintage)
cardi: T2 vintage
sneakers: Converse Allstars
socks: New Look
sunnies: Claire's
PS: Don't forget to vote for my Frida Kahlo outfit here, click "gallery", "most liked" and you should be able to see me when you scroll down a bit! I'll be forever grateful <3
there you go with that perfect tee again, love the combination with the marine cardigan (have no idea why it reminds me of marine). yep seeing you in shorts is a little bit different indeed! i have seen rock werchter in any kind of weather you can imagine. it was freaking hot and steamy underneath the plastic ;;;))). hell for my hair. oh those were the days
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment! Fierceness is our middle name - ok I just made that up but it could be! Great festival tips and digging the LiLoh joke. Also major props for doing the metal sign, always hilarious to see people do that for real. I admit, I may have gone there myself - but it was in my depressed teenage misfit period so don't judge ;)
ReplyDeleteSuch a perfect casual outfit - definitely great for a music festival. I love the cardigan and your knee socks. I always love those heart sunglasses of yours too! I bought a pair of black ones the other day because i love yours so much!

ReplyDeleteLeuk idee ook met die kousen.

I'm just always amused when people talk about festival style, because we're usually never thinking of the same kinds of festivals. Rock festivals in a giant empty field filled with people, a stage, and port-a-poties seems to be the general festival idea... and my idea of festival is 2000 hippies and peace-loving weirdos out in a forested area, frolicking in mud flats and dancing to psytrance, heh. The things worn to these festivals are VERY different heehee.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is so fun and fresh, perfect for a festival!

Love your cutoffs! You're rockin' it.
