I haven't really been in a buying mood recently (PROUD!) but I do still have a few wants on my wishlist. One of them being a pinafore or jumper dress, preferably plaid. After searching etsy for a while but not settling on anything I lucked out at the Think Twice/T2 sales when I stumbled upon this perfectly fitting pink cord pinafore: not what I had in mind but even better in all of its seventies glory! 2 euros later it was mine and I immediately put it on for the rest of my day!
Most people would probably think it's gross to wear something second hand without washing it first, but I was raised on a farm-like property in a house with four kids, multiple dogs and cats and a semi single mom since my dad worked abroad, so impeccable cleanliness never really became a top priority in my mind. If it doesn't smell, it's safe! In fact, I don't wash my hands after going to the bathroom. How's THAT for too much information? I just dislike the whole obsession with hygiene that has swept society off its feet and I totally think kids these days have more allergies because they are too clean. Now don't get me wrong, I shower every day, I just don't see the point in washing my hands after going to the bathroom. It's not like I pee on my hands you know, and when you touch a doorknob you probably get more bacteria on you than you had before washing your hands. SO that's that.
ANYWAY HERE IS MY PINAFORE
These pictures were snapped inside my university, the light was irresistibly pretty. I never really visit this part of University really, I think I've been here about 3 times during the past 3 years. I want to soak it all in some more before this stage of life is over in order to remember every little nook and cranny of my beloved uni <3
dress: T2 vintage
blouse: Pimkie
tights: H&M
loafers: River Island
coat: Kirilove for Vero Moda
Haha brave to share that!! Maar in openbare WC's is de deurknop idd nog veel viezer en probeer ik gwn op zo een manier de deur open te krijgen met mijn voet dat ik het niet moet aanraken dus dan laat ik het ook zo hoor! :p
ReplyDelete1) That, dear, is a pretty perfect pinafore dress you got yourself into! I have been looking for one myself lately, to be honest. Found a decent one from YMC, for like 140 POUNDS. That is so far away from 2 euros I don't think I'm gonna buy it now :) Jealous. Just a tiny little bit.
ReplyDelete2) That's really empty and clean for a university!
met je voet?!?!? :D haha dat moet ik zien!
ReplyDeleteHaha :) I don't always wash my hand either ;) The combination of that dress and the cute blouse is adorable! Thanx for your Project Blogway vote by the way! Love
ReplyDeleteI agree. Society is too obsessed with cleanliness! I wash my hands when I'm at school, but most of them time when I'm at home I don't. You are totally da bomb and I respect that you admit that! I love the pinafore dress and I've been looking for a similar one. I love the colour and it looks so adorable with that blouse.
ReplyDeleteIt's adorable, love the pinafore! This T2 place seems to be a treasure trove of vintage stuff!! xx
ReplyDeleteOH. MY. GOD. I cannot tell you how jealous i am of this dress! It is TOO PERFECT! I hate you, but I love you too so it's ok, i forgive you for finding such amazing items ;) ... Also, I rarely wash stuff I get second hand unless they smell AND i dont wash my hands after the loo either!
ReplyDeleteJup met de voet vereist soms heel wat lenigheid maar ik ben er redelijk in getraind :p
ReplyDeletewe're total hygiene rebels! :D
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely look! I love that blouse and so jealous of your pinafore it's so cute! x
ReplyDeletewat een super cute blousje en jurkje!
ReplyDeleteI have been looking for a corduroy jumper for so long... I was the biggest etsy stalker (also for plaid, it's rubbish on etsy these days)! This is just great and I love the sailboat blouse with it!
ReplyDeleteYeah... I totally think you should wash your hands. Probably all the foodsafe videos I was forced to watch in school talking though. But you're right about the doorknob. And I also just chuck clothes on so long as they don't smell/have funny stains. And only do laundry once a month tops. Too much info? ; )
these photos are so gorgeous..the light shining through the window looks so pretty. I'm in love with your coat on the last pic...im a sucker for anything with a hood. your pink has lasted ages?! have you redone it since or has it actually lasted that long, because if i remember correctly it was semi permanent. I think i might try out a purple colour.
ReplyDeleteim the complete opposite to you..im an absolute germaphobe! i wash my hands constantly to the point they've become really sore. i carry hand sanitizer in my bag and would feel uneasy without it. i never touch door handles and will always dry clean my second hand clothes...it is definitely become a problem which i need to get over. i'm rational enough to know that not washing my hands is not going to harm me but its just been a habit of mine for many years. :(
it has faded sorta fast but the faded pink is lasting super long! I kind of mixed some into my conditioner once but it didn't really make that much of a difference so I guess my dye is just really good! :-D Hope you get over your germaphobe problem, I can imagine it being cumbersome...
ReplyDeletei love pinafore's and your blouse under it is so cute!

Steffys Pros and Cons
This is SUCH a great look, I am loving the boat top under this corduroy dress is absolutely so cute. I often don't wash things from second hand stores/normal stores before I wear them, I do however wash my hands, just force of habit I guess. And I'm careful about doors sometimes, especially after seeing someone hacking a lung out several times on the doorknob (SO gross) but most of the time it's not a big deal.
ReplyDeletecute outfit

Oooh! I love that dress! It is so perfect!!!
ReplyDelete[I'm a bathroom hand washer rebel too! shhhh ;) I agree that's why kids get sick now...when we were little we were always in the mud getting messy and now parents freak out when kids do that]

like others have said, your dress IS perfect!! love, love, love it.
ReplyDeletelove love ur shoes.. :) irene wibowo
ReplyDeletehaha I love this post and your no washing your hands admission - I tend to wash my hands at home out of habit, but not in public bathrooms - just ew. I use pieces of tissue/ toilet paper so I don't touch anything at all the whole time :P
ReplyDeleteyou look so cute, i love how you layered it.
ReplyDeleteWhile you're totally right about the too much hygiene leads to lowered immune system, not washing your hands after the bathroom is totally (and I mean this with the utmost love) disgusting. All it takes is you having some sort of bacteria on your unwashed hand and having an itchy eye and BAM! You've transferred said bacteria to your eyeball and end up with pinkeye (or worse, eye herpes). Or you shake someone new's hand and BAM! Transfer of bacteria and THEY end up with pink eye (or eye herpes). By no means am I a germaphob (I grew up in the country in a house not dissimilar to yours and rarely have time to be bothered to keep my 2-cat house sparkling sterile) but with the amount of dirty objects we touch each day (cell phones, doors, money, public transportation, etc.) what little you can do to prevent the spread of bacteria for your own health is worth it!
ReplyDelete::Steps down from soapbox::
That being said, I adore your pinafore. It's so cute!
I completely agree about kids having more allergies because of the obsession with cleanliness! We need germs to be healthy. For real. But I have allergies myself so I guess I can't really criticize? I'm pretty sure there's some study about this issue though.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, your corduroy jumper is just so cute! I love that it's corduroy and the pretty, fun color of it too.
I love the dress. But I am admittedly quite grossed out by you not washing your hands after you use the washroom. And that's one of the reasons why I do wash my hands after use it - because other people don't. (And I'm not a clean freak at all, but I think it's common courtesy - and also out of habit - to wash my hands even just with water, not even with soap.)
ReplyDeletecuuuuuute!
ReplyDeletei know what you are talking about, a friend of mine raised her boy together with detol! it is an obsession to her and it does not make her happy! so I agree girl! in love with your dress because of the gorgeous gorgeous color and the perfect fit
ReplyDeleteOohh such a cute dress!
ReplyDeleteJust love your outfit! Got to check this T2 store, never heard of it before I started to read your blog ;-)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely respect your opinion, HOWEVER I have never had an eye infection in my life, I am not allergic to anything and I am hardly ever ill. Also, I really wonder why urine (once again, I don't pee on my hands, obviously I would wash my hands if I had the feeling I did) is that much grosser than saliva for example. I'm pretty sure we get that on our hands fairly often. I just don't see it, sorry!
ReplyDeleteand once again: we don't wash our hands after handling cellphones, keyboards, money and doorknobs either, do we? I just don't really see the point, it's like carrying water to the ocean.
ReplyDeletesupermooi licht en geweldige foto's!
ReplyDeleteawesome dress!! omg it's so adorable.
ReplyDeleteI went to T2 the other day in Leuven and I found a really cute sweater so cheap, I was like 'omg I love this store' and now i'm so excited that i'm going to the ones in Antwerpen you once gave me the addresses, wowo me so excited! haha i hope to find something as cute as you do
Wauw! Best T2-buy ever :-) Also, I would never dare to take outfit pictures in my Uni, pfoe, you are very courageous!
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is absolutely adorable, love the pink corduroy and the sail boats...

Kei mooi jurkje!
ReplyDeleteLove that dress! The whole outfit really....and you're not alone in the whole "over cleanliness" thing. I have worn thrifted items before washing them...I just get too excited! : /

Superstition Vintage
You look awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI am actually in LOVE with this outfit.
ReplyDeleteCute! What a great thrift find! I usually wear my finds without washing them first too, unless they REALLY smell like old clothes. Smelling like granny's attic has no appeal to me heh. I agree though, I think a large part of why kids are so prone to allergies and colds is because their parents don't allow them to actually develop any sort of natural immunity. I grew up running around farm animals and forests and playing in the mud and muck and I survive juuuust fine heh.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind not washing clothes when I get them even if they are vintage, but washing your hands does help against bacteria and I get sick easily so I do it. hehe. I love your cute outfit.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your pinafore! It's perfect. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I don't wash my secondhand items unless they smell, either. I mean... the store I frequent generally has clothing that smells like it's already been washed, so what's the point? And unless I'm at work, I don't wash my hands after the bathroom either.
