Paperbag Shorts and Bustier

These pics were taken yesterday. I'm really loving the beautiful days of warm weather we've been experiencing. It's still a sucky summer, but when the sun rays come out for a day I immediately forget how crappy the last two months have been. What can I say, I forgive and forget easily. The weather hits me in the face, I turn my other cheek. Yeah, that's me!

I wanted to wear something cool and fuss-free so I French braided my hair, put on this bustier and paired it with these H&M Garden Collection paperbag shorts I picked up in the sales last year, and some easy flats to counter all the nudity going on up there. Tip of the way: wear granny shorts with your skimpy tops, you won't feel as bare and won't attract the amount of stares you would with a sexier bottom half!

Apparently, my French braids totally made my hat fit my head better. I have a crazy tiny head so usually my boater is slightly too big. As to the braiding technique: I just parted my hair in the middle, created two messy french braids (google a youtube tutorial, I suck at explaining things) and pinned them up at the back of my head for that milkbraid effect.

I'm super excited today because my little sis got featured in Marie Claire Belgium!! It all started a few months ago when I saw a tweet of one of the MC editors looking for girls with curves and a great fashion sense. I immediately thought of my stylish sis so I sent the editor a message with her contact info and the rest is history! I LOVE the interview she did, you can read part of it here.

To translate the main points here for my foreign readers: she's singing the praise of clothes that fit your body right, altering clothes, vintage stuff (because it fits a lot better than H&M crap etc) but above all: wearing whatever the fuck you want regardless of what the rules dictate. Who cares if a bold floral or horizontal stripes might make you look bigger? Because, like she says: who ever said the only way to look beautiful is to look as small as possible? I love her body acceptance stance and wholehartedly agree! Find my awesomesauce sis here and here.

  13. First, an apology: You've been my favorite style blogger for a long time, and I shouldn't have been so lurky. Thanks for the inspiration! Your outfits are consistently creative and wear-able. Second: "Who ever said the only way to look beautiful is to look as small as possible"... Wow. Your sister is beautiful AND smart. This made my day.

  14. Not sure if my first comment went through so I shall comment again, sorry if you get a duplicate :).

I love this outfit, and the pretty bustier totally works well with the neutral shorts! And like you said, the longer length looks great rather than having short shorts and a short top. Also, congrats to your sister on the feature! She's gorgeous and I totally agree with her. (of what you translated, anyway). I just checked out the links and am now following :) x

  15. Wow awesomness must run in your family! I absolutely love what your sister said, I'm sure she's been a huge inspiration to many women & is an awesome reminder to me. I certainly find myself getting stuck in the rut of thinking I should wear whatever makes me look as small as possible, whatever is the most "flattering." In fact a friend & I were having a convo about this yesterday, how we say "flattering" usually to mean the most slimming and how we create all these crazy complexes for ourselves & each other. Anyway, you are both inspirations & I love both of your outfits here!

  18. This bustier top is sooo pretty and feminine. I love it, especially with the paper bag shorts, such a good balance going on here :) I agree that wearing what you like regardless of the "rules" is so much more fun. Print mixing is probabl;y my favourite thing to do and to many people this goes against the rules

  19. I love your hair like that, so cute! And this outfit is awesome, you look great. I wish I had the guts to wear shorts like that. I see you, you look great. Then if I put them on, I'd be horrified by a giant pelvic area and go hide. Sigh, silly me. And wow, congrats to your sister, how great is that.
