Blue in the Rye

I went cycling again to take pictures at that amazing rye field before it all gets harvested in a few weeks and I decided to dress practical yet whimsical for the occasion: a sturdy denim skirt to shield my legs from the prickly strands of rye, and a flower wreath to celebrate summer.

Today's tip: if someone rides by while you are taking pictures, just act as if you were taking pictures of the field. DIGNITY SAVED

Thank you for all your amazing feedback on yesterday's post! You brought up some interesting points and made me realize some things: yeah, I should just get over myself. I mean, I should be happy because I get so many comments and so many views at all! There is such an enormous amount of blogs out there that standing out even a bit is something to celebrate. I shouldn't nag about dropping ratings, I should focus on the views and comments I DO receive..

But I don't feel bad about nagging about it a tiny bit though! :-D I mean, if you make the effort to improve your pictures and maintain the quality in your writing, you feel like you deserve some recognition for it, don't you? So yeah, I DO feel entitled to stats that stay at the same level at least! Dropping stats when you feel like your content is improving just feels really unfair.

Or maybe I'm just acting like a two year old! :-D

ANYWAY this is the last I've said about this, I should really stop nagging now. To move on to more interesting subjects (as if): tomorrow I'm getting my hair cut. Nothing drastic, just a removal of possible dead ends and getting my face framed a bit better. I'm extremely low maintenance in the hair department, I already spend ridiculous amounts of time getting dressed and made up every day so I like to keep my hair very low fuss. I only get it cut like twice a year! I'm going for something like this (yes I look to ASOS models for my hair-spiration):

So yeah I'm just going to ask my hairdresser to make my hair look as if I cut it myself with hedge clippers. Which is basically what I have now. FO SHO

top: altered Pimkie
skirt: Zara
sandals: sac d'anvers
headband: Etsy (little honey pies)
belt: ASOS

  7. your photos get more and more lovely! such a beautiful setting and your outfit fits in perfectly. ive just read ur previous post and if ur stats have dropped drastically then maybe it has something to do with blogger? I have so many issues with mine...like the 'join this site' button sometimes likes to hide so people cant follow me even if they wanted. and i've had people tell me that my posts are never on their feed. but whatever the reason i absolutely love your blog and take it from me neither your photos or content have lacked recently...i think your blog improves all the time.

  15. Wow looks so beautiful! Haha it's always awkward when you take photos in public...or semi-public...By the way, I've always wondered are you Belgian? Or do you just live there? http://thearcenciel.blogspot.com/

  16. Wow, definitely my favorite photo shoot of yours so far-- the fields, the blue sky, the sweet yet practical outfit! I also giggled about your incident with the passerby, yes you are obviously just photographing the landscape...

Also, I meant to say yesterday that July/August is the main time that most people are traveling/on vacation. Also, since the weather is good and it's light out longer more people are out enjoying the day rather than staying inside reading blogs. Since we get so few months of good weather in Chicago I've been taking lots of evening walks, eating outside and watching movies in the park!

  17. I love these photos... this is the perfect outfit for the rye field, a very "village lass" sort of vibe. Hehe, and as I've said, a bit of whining about stats seems perfectly normal to me. : )

  20. i must say that this is to me a picture perfect! you in a field always works, it is like the field knows your fashion identity and is saying: styling dutchman, we are one! so much in love with that uber 70's vintage skirt, looks amazing on you and i love it with the top! perfect color combination! the top makes it playful and interesting because of the stripes. PS always love the way a field changes too

  22. Mooie foto's! :-)

  23. Well I'm a new reader so you've at least got new traffic from me!

You have a wonderful vintage style and your photos are just gorgeous. Every time I attempt something with a concept to it, it just doesn't work! So I watch your photos with great interest, as they are an excellent thing to aspire to.

  24. Everything in this outfit is lovely..Your skirt, sandals, top..everything!
Also I will follow your tip and next time someone is looking strangely at me while photoshooting I will pretend that I'm taking pictures of the landscape..hahaha :))

  25. Hi Kerry! You don't have a blog to reply to so I'll just do so here: thank you for your sweet comment! I might have to do a small tutorial or something about the pictures I take if people are interested!

  26. Oh my gosh, you look beautiful!! I really like the first picture. I personally adore your blog (it is on my blogroll, in fact!). Stats seem to go up and down, depending on the day, so try not to stress over it too much. I think you're doing great! xo

  27. Oh I love these photos! So pretty! You look wonderful in this outfit. I'm about the same with my hair... it's super long, so not much can be done with it, and since I don't dye, straighten or curl it... I just get it trimmed every once in a while and leave it be.

  28. Oh the photos in the fields are so pretty! i love the country vibe about the outfit, especially this cute floral headband!

  32. Pretty pictures! The backdrop of the field is just stunning, great hippie vibes coming my way. You won't fool the children of the revolution. Or no hang on, 'Going up the Country'! This is soooo 'Going up the Country', so jump in the water and stay drunk all the time ;) x

  33. Lovely pictures, yet again!! The poppy picture is definitely my favorite. The little pop of color is perfection.

That is a great bustier/top. I like how the combo of the casual fabric and the longer skirt gives the whole look a demure sexiness. Hot stuff!

  34. Goodness knows I love your hair. I may have brought a picture of you to my hair salon when I got mine cut... (Or not! I'll admit nothing!) And honestly, I don't feel like it's childish at all to feel grumpy about dropping stats! What blogger hasn't ever felt discouraged by a seemingly low readership or half-baked comments on a really heartfelt post?? I know exactly where you're coming from, and dropping stats or not, your blog always inspires me, and your writing cracks me up! :)

This comment is forever-long, BUT I couldn't leave without saying that these photos are dreamy, and the shot of you holding that poppy is magic.
