Beauty: Yves Rocher lip crayon and mattifying lip primer review

Beauty: Yves Rocher lip crayon review

'Sup babes! Today I'm reviewing these pretty, easy, toss-in-your-purse-and-reapply-without-a-mirror practical lip crayons by Yves Rocher. People love lip crayons because they're cute and provide an easy way to get a bit of colour on your lips while simultaneously moisturizing them: win win! And especially now during the last stretch of winter, we can all use a bit pampering for our chapped lips.

These lip crayons have been a part of Yves Rocher's beauty collection for a while now, but the brand introduces new colours every so often, and these six are the newest addition to the family. They moisturize your lips with shea- and mango butter (sounds yum), and come in a handy twist-up tube. Mauve Tendre and Pourpre Lumineux have a subtle amount of glitter in them, but the rest of the lip crayons don't.

Rouge Bordeaux is a raspberry red, Pourpre Lumineux is a berry colour with a subtle amount of shimmer, Mauve Tendre is a pale, cool pink with some microglitter which is hardly visible on the lips, Rouge Aquarelle is a bright watermelon pink, Rouge Flamboyant is a cool leaning red, and Rose Somptueux is a heavily saturated fuchsia.

For a sheer, moisturizing balm formula, the pigmentation in these lip crayons is pretty great. Pourpre Lumineux and Rose Somptueux are especially pigmented, but all of them do just fine. Of course, the glossiness fades pretty quickly, but the colour does remain on the lips a bit longer and they are so easy to reapply that that really isn't an issue. My personal favourites are Rouge Bordeaux, Mauve Tendre and Rouge Aquarelle, because I feel like they are the most wearable and flattering shades on me. I would have liked it if there was also a more brown leaning shade in the line though, and possibly a more orange shade, because the range of colours is sort of safe and traditional, but I bet these are real crowd pleasers. Great starter lipsticks too, for people who don't go for more heavy/difficult to apply products.

The lip crayons retail at €13.90 but they're currently marked down 50%, so go stock up if you like what you see! I think they're a bit expensive for what they are, but discounted like this they are a pretty sweet deal, and they really are loaded with moisturizing ingredients and don't contain any parabens.

Along with the new shades of an already existing product, Yves Rocher is also introducing something new: this mattifying lip primer that you can combine with any type of lipstick to make it more matte and more long lasting. My girl Annabel tried this at the press event and she noticed that it did dry out her lips, so proceed with cautions if your lips are chapped.

The primer does what it promises: it makes the lip crayon a bit more matte, especially if you dab your lips after applying the lip crayon over the primer (which is what I did for for the lip pic on the right), and the colour will last longer. It also makes the colour less saturated, though, so it's a bit of a trade off.
A negative I'd signal is that it doesn't come in the handy twist-up tube of the lip crayons, but in a regular pencil which needs sharpening. I'd change that asap, Yves Rocher! Twist up > sharpening, always. The primer goes for €14.90 and is also marked down 50%. I don't think I'd get this myself: if I want to mattify a lip product, I just dab some translucent powder over it. Or, ya know, buy a lippie that's matte to begin with.

Which of the lip crayons is your fav?
