I think I first heard about lash growth serum about four years ago. I've never been challenged in the lash department (count your privileges), but I know that a lot of people are frustrated about their (lack of) natural lash-resources. Mascara can only do so much if you don't have a lot to work with, and no one has time to put on falsies every single day.
Latisse has been getting more and more popular across the pond (I read a lot of U.S. based beauty blogs) because it has very real, very dramatic results, but if you're well informed, you also know that those results can come at a cost. Not only have I read about rare cases where use of Latisse has resulted in facial hairgrowth and changed iris colour (from blue to brown, for example), the prostaglandin used in Latisse has also been linked to reduced fat around the eye, resulting in drooping eyelids and sunken eyesockets. Yikes.
HOWEVER, how about alternative options? Green Esthetics offers a lash growth serum that does not contain prostaglandin. To see what it does contain, check out this comprehensive, exhaustive list of ingredients. I love it when brands are honest and open about how the sausage is made, and if you're curious about lash growth serums, this one is definitely a much safer option than Latisse and co. The proof is in the pudding, however (what's with all these food based metaphors?), so I used the serum at least once a day for two months to show you guys what it does.
The Longer Lash eyelash grown solution comes in a vial containing 5ml of product, which does not seem like a lot, but you barely need anything - I've been using mine for two months once or twice a day, and I'm still not halfway through finishing the tube. The wand ends in a thin, long brush, and you apply it along the base of your upper lashes (where you would normally put eyeliner) before applying moisturizer or makeup. Do not put too much product on, or it might run into your eye, which will sting. You can also use it on your lower lashes, obviously, but I didn't. The easiest way to use this product is to apply it right before you go to bed, as it does add time to your morning routine as you want to let it dry a bit before applying your makeup.
Let's get to the meat of this post: what does it do?
DISCLAIMER: it did not make my lashes more black, the difference between the two pictures is mainly lighting and the fact that I got a bit of foundation on my lashes in the "before" pictures. So don't pay any attention to the colour, focus on the thickness and fulness of the lashes instead. Now, when I compared these two pictures, I have to say I was disappointed because I didn't notice any real difference between the before and after shots. However, the next picture proved me wrong:
Focus on the outer corner of the eye, the left portion of both pictures. HUGE difference, right? Longer, more lashes, a very noticeable change! The bottom lashes also seem fuller, but that can be because I was looking "up" more on the before pic and the angle makes my lashes disappear.
Again, looking at both eyes straight on, the difference is pretty dramatic in the outer corners of my eyes. Definitely a noticeable difference, and I bet the all over effect would be even bigger if you were starting out with sparser lashes. I'm convinced!
The Green Esthetics Longer Lash serum sells at $69.95, which is not cheap, but considering I have been using this for over two months and still have more than half a tube left, I can guarantee that that $70 will last you ages. I also noticed that they JUST did a 40% off discount code on their FB page, so watch that space if the price is too steep for you to take the plunge.
If you have any questions, ask away!
