VERY picture heavy post coming up babes! Me and my boo (where does that word even come from?) went to Planckendael Zoo (ha rhymes) on Monday because the weather was just gorgeous and I had never been there. I always have this really ambivalent feeling about the zoo because I love animals and I love seeing them in the flesh, but even though I know most zoos play an important part in protecting endangered species, I still hate seeing those amazing creatures in cages. Some of the animals have great big fields to frolic in but others are really cramped up and it makes me rather sad. But let me take you with us through our day!
Me in my lemon printed Primark dress in front of the flamingos.
Awesome wood inappropriate (check between his legs :-o) elephant sculpture at the entrance gate.
The vegetation in the park was so beautiful, really added to the exotic atmosphere.
This cool guy flew right over our heads when we entered the park and kept popping up at unexpected places. Most of the time he just walked around on the paths as if he owned the place: awesome dude.
This cheeky little guy flew right towards us to say hi. Probably just expected some food!
I love how stupid these owls look. Stupid owls.
Aaaah the cheeta! Such a boss!
I LOVE giraffes! So different from every other creature on this planet, so awkward yet so elegant and serene. This giraffe baby had been born just hours ago on Sunday night while we were there on Monday, adorable!
Getting some ice cold coke to battle the heat and my dry throat!! Loved how the color looked against my lemony dress :-)
This Australian bird really intrigued me. The description card said it was super dangerous (which I can understand, just look at those talons!), but the look on its face was so sad. It kind of creeped me out to be honest!
This rhinoceros got really close, I got this amazing picture of his leathery skin. I could even touch him if I wanted but I didn't want to disturb him!
Another baby among the monkeys! Adorable :-)
I am crazy about buffaloes. In fact, my favorite animal in the whole wide world is the muskox, but this bison really impressed me as well. The head was just monumental, so big and heavy and awesome! :-D It doesn't translate well on photo, in real life it looks so much bigger (duh). The head was about one third of its total size, amazing.
This guy came walking by again!
Apparently this is his house! This is the roof of a restaurant which was fittingly named "The Stork" (Den Ooievaar).
Hyenas! Always find these a bit scary, a worse case of dead eyes than the worst contestants of America's Next Top Model.
That's it! I hope you enjoyed our trip to the zoo :-)

That dress is GORGEOUS!
So sad. :-(
Bahahaha! I love your captions in this post! I feel the same way about zoos...however, these photos are so cool =D
ReplyDeleteI loved your trip to the zoo! I love the lemon dress against the flamingos (love the lemon dress in general) and I really love storks. Also, baby giraffe? Sooo sweet!
ReplyDeleteyou look so pretty <3
ReplyDeleteand that dress is adorable :D
riestyaap
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that dress!!
ReplyDeleteand YAY for the zoo! I agree though, I love seeing the animals but its so sad that they are in such confined spaces :(
You got some amazing shots

Sorry if I am making the same comment twice, but my browser crashed and I can't tell if my comment posted...
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures! That dress looks perfect for walking through a zoo. I really want to go to a zoo before the summer is over. Although I agree that it sucks to see sad animals confined in small spaces. I much prefer the areas with open fields.
I'm in love with your dress, soooo pretty!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the zoo, it's sad that they're in such tiny places :(
Great photos, the baby giraffe is so adorable :)

You looked adorable for you trip to the zoo! I really love the stupid owls, giraffes, and camels. I need to take a trip to the zoo sometime!
ReplyDeletei love zoo, they sometimes give me a Villa des Roses feeling! you are right about the small cages, although, i am a pretty lazy person! so survival rate in the wild! so I am sure that there are pretty lazy animals too! animals are always a fabulous inspiration, that blue bird has the most magnificent colors. I think there is a elephant coming to the zoo?
ReplyDeleteanyway, love your dress because of the insane hilarious prints, hey you are walking around with lemons! but it makes me smile and i love the sunny color
Jeeej I can learn you something: my "Beau" comes from French for my Handsome ;-)
ReplyDeletePretty soft colors today!
Planckendael! Heel leuke jurk trouwens!
ReplyDeletei love zoo's and most australian zoo's are really good but the phuket zoo in thailand is the worst! they were in the tiniest cages, even the large birds were in small cages it made me cry, a poor tiger was in this 5m by 5mtr cage just pacing trying to get out!!! :( not good.
ReplyDeleteWat een geweldige print! Fijne foto's weer :)
ReplyDeleteLeuke foto's!
ReplyDeleteAwwww, baby giraffe!!! Giraffes are one of my favourite animals, so lucky you get to see the wee one so young.
ReplyDeleteThere's a provincial park not too far from my boyfriend's town with bison in it. We have to drive by it to go to and from the airport and I get lucky enough to see them near the edge sometimes. The first time, I even saw a little calf! Well, little, they ARE huge, that's for sure hah.
Those pictures were awesome, they really make me want to go to a zoo before this summer is over.
Awww love animals!! <3
ReplyDeleteYour dress is so cool. I don't know if you know what hypeed.com is, but they have a Tooti-Frutti or something theme right now where you can get on Vogue in France and hardly any people have posted fruity clothing on it (and sadly you can hardly see the fruit from my skirt that I posted but the photos are over a year old anyway). Perhaps you'll look into it.
i love the flamingoes, and your dress is so cute as always!

ReplyDeleteHahahhahaaaaa I have so many ANTM moments in my head right now and comparing them to hyenas is hilarious! :)
ReplyDeleteWow! It looks like SUCH an awesome day! I am a big animal lover, and this trip looks fantastic. I Can't choose which animal i like the most! It looks like you had an amazing day though.
ReplyDeleteThe dress and sandals looks SIMPLY FABULOUS :D
Plankendael is my favorite :) I really love your dress in this scenery and I really should go there again.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this post!
Somehow I always get behind on your posts, well not somehow, you are just great on posting! I loved this one so much, all the animals look so cool and the baby giraffe & mom is just so sweet. I've always thought the same about giraffes actually, they look like they are from a different planet. & my sentiments about zoos are the same too, I always wonder how they dedicate cage space, my local zoo has some large spaces as well but then a teeny one for the huge tiger, so sad. your dress is awesome too, so funny that it's lemons but you look great! Oh, & poor hyena, I think he looks cute!
ReplyDeletecan I have this dress?:) I think it would be so perfect for summer! whenever I'm abroad and find a Primark I only find chaos in the shops, and none of the pretty items I see online :(

Hi! i love your dress!
ReplyDeletecan i ask you wich size did you choose? i usually wear size 6, but i don't know wich size with this dress and i can try it!
XO
Love your blog
Hi Jude! I got it one size bigger because it fits rather snug and doesn't have a zipper of any kind. But if you have big boobs (unlike me), maybe go two sizes bigger and take it in at the waist?
ReplyDeletethanks!
