A cloudy evening in Paris

A cloudy evening in Paris

Shortly after returning to Belgium at the end of September, I felt the urge to book a weekend away with just the two of us. Travel is addictive, and after so many years of dreaming about discovering the world my life has done a 180 - now I get antsy when I don't have anything planned in the future! It's a very blessed position to be in, I'm fully aware of that and travel is truly one of the biggest sources of happiness in my life. You know what else never fails to fill me with joy?

Paris.

So two chilly November days in Paris were just what the doctor ordered. I booked us a lovely little Airbnb in the Quartier Latin, which ended up being our favourite area for a stay in Paris yet. We left just before the yellow jacket protests really took off, so we were extra lucky in that regard. Paris isn't exactly a great place to visit as a tourist right now.

Things were still peaceful and quiet when we were there, but as always, I completely underestimated the cold and totally underpacked and underdressed. Please remind me that next time I'll err on the side of sweating my butt off over freezing.

We were there for two nights. Here are some pictures I snapped on our first afternoon and evening in the city!

I discovered this adorable little alleyway Rue Saint-André des Arts not far from our Airbnb. We have wandered endlessly through the Parisian streets, and we always stumble upon places we remember from previous visits. And yet, I discover something new each time we're there as well.

We didn't actually grab a bite at La Jacobine, but seeing their amazing reviews online we should definitely write down this address for our next time around!

Of course I had to ask my guy for a quick pic when we spotted this beautiful restaurant. Café Procope is another little gem we discovered wandering through the streets, and I didn't even know of its rich heritage hosting some of history's most politically prominent figures like Robespierre and Benjamin Franklin! And aesthetically pleasing to boot. The French rarely half ass anything, right?

Even on a grey day the Notre-Dame and the little kiosks along the Seine take my breath away.

As night falls, I fall even more in love with the city. Something about the way the cobblestones seem to glow in the streetlights, and all those pretty little Art Nouveau details everywhere. It's the reason why I never get tired of Paris. It draws you in like pretty song that you want to hear more of. I could spend an entire night roaming the streets of Paris, talking to my love about life and movies and our hopes and dreams, rediscovering memories of previous visits and making new ones.

When it was dinnertime and were in dire need of warming up, we ended up at this quaint little restaurant stuffed to the brim with vintage furniture and random nicknacks: Le Marmiton de Lutece. The dinner we had here wasn't haute cuisine by any means, but the wine made my boeuf bourguignon with potatoes go down like it was the best meal I'd had in ages.

You haven't been to Paris if you haven't floated back to your hotel/B&B high on life, rosy cheeks flushed because you've had just the right amount of red wine.

Cheers!
