Summer is coming to its end, sadly. It fully seems as if fall has already started in Belgium these days, but I'm trying to be positive here: that only makes our upcoming trip to California even more enticing. One final stretch of summer in one of the most appealing travel destinations, shared with some of my favourite people. I really can't wait.
This will also mark my one year anniversary at my first post-PhD job as a market researcher, and I'm happy to say I've found my footing there. The first six months or so at a new job are always incredibly stressful for me, filled with self-doubt as I take every mistake as a proof that I'm a fraud. After about 6 months I start to relax, and right now I feel like I can be adequately proud of what I achieve most days. And that's really what I want out of a job: feeling like I'm good at something, adding value, not just struggling to keep my head above water. Yeah, I'm pretty hard on myself. I have an amazing set of hilarious, supportive colleagues though, which makes everything 100% better.
Anyway, about the outfit! I popped into the shops with my sister for a short browse, and I instantly fell in love with this skirt I spotted at Monki. The flowy cut, the button through detail, the white-on-green irregular dot print and the very wallet-friendly price tag (25€!) all had my sister tell me I had to get it because she could tell I was smitten. Sometimes you just need someone to tell you not to feel guilty about an impulse buy, you know? Definitely taking it with me to California.
Btw, speaking of: I've discovered the coolest app ever to help packing. Smart Closet. I'm not sponsored or anything, I was simply looking for an app to provide the same functionality as Cher Horowitz' closet in Clueless, and stumbled upon Smart Closet! It's the best thing ever to get an overview of your closet. I've been uploading items I'm considering to bring on our roadtrip and putting together little outfit collages using those items, which is incredibly helpful to me because it visualizes all of the options you have with a limited set of garments and exposes which piece might be missing to increase versatility. When I'm packing, I always lay out everything on the floor before making my suitcase, but having this app skips that step because it basically lays out all of the pieces on my smartphone. Seriously, best thing ever and actually fun to do as well.
Go install it if you're anything near as type A about packing, shopping or personal style as I am.
