I recently received a box filled with bright coloured, shimmery glitter products- the Primark Prism collection! And now that summer is in full swing, with its beach parties and festivals that allow you to go all out - what better time to play with glitter? I figured you guys would be interested in seeing whether the collection is worth checking out, so after trying all of it, I put together a review of the products that perform best (according to me).
In general, I'm not a makeup snob. Although I have to admit most of my favourites are high end rather than drugstore, I still have plenty of drugstore cosmetics that I adore (most notably the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets). Especially when it comes to crazy colours and shimmer - looks I don't rock on a regular basis - I like checking out affordable options, because investing in something you might just wear a couple of times seems a bit silly. The Primark Prism collection definitely fills a mermaid-shaped void there, bringing shine and duochromes and bright shades at a very sweet price point.
Not everything in the collection is a hit. The hair crayons are too small to work with, for example, and the mermaid lipglosses just look like clear gloss. However, there's a bunch of really cute stuff that I would like to introduce you to.
First, this four-pack of duochrome lipglosses!
Clockwise starting from top left: lilac with gold shift, mint with silver pale gold shift, rosegold and clear with blue shift and glitter. These glosses don't smell amazing, but they are really fun and wearable. Great way to try out the whole mermaid/unicorn trend without looking too cray. The minty shade doesn't do much, but the others all look really magical. I think the four togethere were like €5.
Another item I'm raving about is these dirt cheap glitter/sparkle eyeliners!
I have tried a bunch of bright/glitter liquid eyeliners in my day, and the budget ones almost all had the same problem: they irritated my eye, didn't give an opaque finish, or they crumbled/cracked after drying. These Primark eyeliners do none of that. They stayed bright and comfortable througout the day, and they looked totally fab! At about €1.75, they're a steal. I used the silver in my inner corners, and the blue on the lower lashline.
I also really like these bold glitters, packaged along with a glitter adhesive. You can apply them wherever, obviously, but I wanted to do the less obvious thing and create a grungy glitter lip. Think Kesha.
Yas I love. The glitter adhesive does its job perfectly, I had a ridiculously hard time getting all the glitter off. These would also look good underneath the eye, on the cheekbone - wherever really! I think this one goes for €4.
Finally, the pièce de resistance of the collection: this glitter eye cream palette. So incredibly pretty. How cute would this be as a gift to a makeup-loving kid? I would have DIED if I had gotten this one as a kid.
The creams are not pigmented, they're just pure glitter in a clear creamy base. They don't need adhesive to stay put, which is quite practical. If you use em over eyeshadow, beware though: like most cream/gel type eyeshadows, they will make the bottom layers crease a bit. However, the sparkle is lovely enough to find a way to make these work!
I used the orange/green duochrome glitter (second from the left on my arm swatch) dabbed over a look I created with Urban Decay Naked Heat, and I used the blue/silvery glitter as a lipgloss. Another vibrant yet wearable glitter look, I reckon.
The glitter cream palette retails at just €6.
In short, if you're still looking for some fun products to brighten up your summer party looks, or if you want to rock the magical creature vibe: Primark Prism is where it's at!
