It's Friday and I'm feeling alive, people. Well, I'm actually feeling braindead after writing parts of my PhD's conclusion (I hate writing conclusions), so please excuse me if this post is filled with spelling mistakes. I'll do my best to keep it 100. Let's talk about Dior's new Addict Lacquer sticks!
Glossy, saturated lipcolours has been THE trend for the past few months (see MAC liptensity, for example), and Dior is presenting its own take on the look for spring 2017. I received two shades, 877 Turn Me and 924 Sauvage. As always, Dior's products look gorgeous, exuding luxury. But do they stand out in other ways? Let's find out!
The lipsticks have a rounded bullet with a spherical top in a sleek, silver tube that clicks into the Dior embossed casing. Dior 877 Turn Me looks like a bright, pink based red when you look at the bullet, but it translates quite differently on my lips: more like a watermelon pink. The product is pigmented enough, but still buildable: use a light swipe for sheer colour, or two swipes for a brighter saturation. I did a bit of an ombre effect with most of the colour in the center of my lips, and a lighter coverage on the sides. I've been into a softer, semi-smudged look, lately.
I like the juicy, pink look, and the Dior Addict Lacquer stick feels soft and hydrating on the lips, almost like a balm thanks to its oil infused formula. Perfect for dry, late-winter-almost-spring lips! However, compared to MAC's liptensity lipsticks, Turn Me did let me down a bit in the pigmentation department. You do need to build up the product to get that super bright, super glossy effect featured in the campaign shots, or use a lip pencil underneath of course.
924 Sauvage performs better, though, pigmentationwise. Sauvage is a beautiful winestain shade that is just light enough (for a burgundy) to be wearable instead of goth-y. The pigmentation does make application a bit more precarious, though: the rounded, bulbous tip of the bullet just isn't the easiest to work with if you want crisp lines, and the glossy formula is prone to sheering out and becoming patchy if you use a lipbrush along the edges, making it a bit fussy in use.
I do love how both of these wear off evenly (and slowly, thanks to the beeswax), leaving you with beautiful stained lips instead of that ring-around-the-mouth effect. This is what the colours look like worn off:
Super, lovely, right? This is actually my favourite thing about the Dior Addict Lacquer, that pretty, glossy stain they leave behind. That's a look I can get behind for spring and summer, super low maintenance and soft.
These lipsticks retail at €34.50. Oh, and they come in an extensive range of colours ranging from nudes to brights to dark shades. You like?
