I can't hide that beauty reviews are my favourite type of blogposts. I love introducing you to pretty products that I can fully recommend, and today we're looking at one of the most beautiful beauty releases of the recent couple of months: the Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild glowkit.
Highlighters have been having their moment for the past year or so, and ABH bumped the trend to a new level by popularizing duochrome highlighters. Duochrome highlighters have an edge on your typical silver/champagne sheen because they offer that ethereal fairytale look. However, contrary to the brightly pigmented Jeffree Star highlighters that have more in common with blushes or eyeshadow in my opinion, these are still incredibly wearable because the wash of colour only becomes obvious when the light hits it just right.
The Moonchild glow kits aren't easy to get by over here in Belgium, but you can try and order it directly from the Anastasia Beverly Hills website + shipito, or via Sephora.fr. Moonchild retails at $40 via the ABH website or €47 via Sephora.fr, which in my opinion is a steal for six high end highlighters of this size. Definitely Christmas wishlist material. I borrowed my sister's glow kit for this review, thanks sis!
Let's swatch away.
Blue ice has a frosty white base with a blue shift, and a sheer finish that contains some microshimmer. Star a highly pigmented, cool, metallic silver sans shimmer, perfect for that super bright, on fleek highlight that is so popular with bloggers right now. Purple Horseshoe is a lavender that contains pink and blue shimmer, and is also quite pigmented. Pink Heart (obviously my favourite) is a sheer gold-ish beige with a gorgeous pink duochrome shift, and it contains champagne microshimmer. Lucky Clover is a totally unique minty green gold, with a metallic finish. Despite being green, it is super wearable and translates more gold on the skin. Blue Moon is also frosty AF, a steel blue/silver with a bright metallic finish. All of these can be used sheerly or more full on.
The highlighters are all perfectly creamy, easy to pick up and apply with a fan brush, and you only need a tiny amount. Absolutely one of the most high quality highlighters I've tried.
All of these can be used as highlighters wherever: eyelids, bridge of nose, cheekbones, collarbones, cupid's bow, brow bone. Either way they'll make you look like a unicorn princess. Let's see how they perform in action.
Underexposing a pic really makes the duochrome colour shine. I applied Pink Heart on my nose and cheekbones, Star on my cupid's bow, Lucky Clover in my inner eye corner and Blue Moon + Purple Horseshoe on my eyelids. The effect seems pretty in your face in this darker shot, but if you see it in regular light, you'll notice how subtle and beautiful the Moonchild glow kit can be.
Super wearable, right? You'll only see hints of blue and pink in some lighting conditions, but in general the Moonchild glow kit lends itself perfectly to a soft overall glow. Perfect to brighten up dull winter skin. I'm loving this subtle makeup look where I only used highlighters and a nude lipstick, very fresh and young and a nice change from all the heavy full face looks we're seeing everywhere these days.
