I hope you're in the mood for brights, because that's what you'll be getting today! Taraji P. Henson collaborated with MAC to design two Viva Glam lip products, and as you may know, all proceeds of all Viva Glam products go to the MAC AIDS fund. SUCH an important project to support, and MAC deserves so much credit for continuing this campaign since 1994.
Taraji P. Henson is known for her role in Empire, and she recently starred in Hidden Figures which I want to see asap. Her Viva Glam line is vibrant and feminine, featuring a satin lipstick and a lipglass in bright but wearable fuchsia.
A true fuchsia, cool toned, sitting in the medium-dark part of the colour spectrum, making this attention grabbing shade quite wearable and flattering on a wide range of skin tones. Not a Barbie pink, but a rich colour that almost leans purple.
Apart from the bright colour, I also love the packaging on these products. Watermelon red isn't the safest choice to pair with fuchsia, but it totally works with the attention demanding voice of the Viva Glam campaigns.
The Viva Glam x Taraji P. Henson lipstick applies smoothly but still has a bit of "grab" when applying, making it stay put better on the lips than a cream lipstick would. The satin finish isn't on trend right now, but it does look absolutely lovely with this lush fuchsia. I don't wear this colour often, but I was happily surprised by how flattering the shade is. Very vibrant, very wearable.
The lipglass is possibly even more beautiful to me. I would have been allll over this product as a teen for its subtle cool toned glitter, its girly-sexy pink shade, that signature MAC vanilla scent, and the almost punk-bright packaging. The lipglass is opaque on its own but can obviously be layered over the lipstick.
Both products are top notch, quality wise: apply evenly with the utmost ease, comfortable on the lips and quite long wearing (the lipstick lasting longer, obviously), leaving a stain when wearing off, never leaving you with that dreaded ring-of-colour around the outer edges of the lips. I definitely can see myself wearing these more often throughout the year, I just need to get out of my neutral lips comfort zone!
