I have been sort of "over" contouring for a while now (too much effort), but there's one product I discovered about two months ago that made me revisit the technique. Let me introduce you to a new favourite product, the BE Creative Perfect & Reflect contour kit.
This contour kit is the first BE Creative product I've tried - I got it in a goodiebag after an event, and when I finally got around to trying it I was very pleasantly surprised. For one, most contour kits contain a rather warm toned contour colour. The easiest, most natural contouring result comes from a cool (but not too cool) toned contour colour that is a bit darker than your skin tone. In addition, the matte highlighting powder makes the contouring process basically foolproof because you can mix the two shades together to create a softer contour, or use the lighter colour around the edges of your contour to facilitate blending.
Since I'm so pale, the highlighting colour sort of disappears on my skin, but the pigmentation is fine. The contour shade is the real star here, though: a perfect neutral brown that is super finely milled, is just pigmented enough (you don't want a contour product that is TOO pigmented), and most of all: it applies smoothly (impossible to make it look patchy) and blends like a dream. I have tried quite a few contouring options up until now, and this one creates the nicest, natural yet noticeable result with the smallest possible effort. I prefer using a fan brush, picking up a bit of product and applying it with a light hand along my cheekbones. The end result creates definition and emphasizes my highlight.
This picture makes the contour seem warmer than it is in real life, because the pictures were taken in sunlight, but you definitely see how soft and natural the contour is even though I made almost no effort to blend it. Trust me, this product makes contouring incredibly easy. Here are some more pics where I've used the BE Creative perfect & reflect contour kit, some more subtle, some a bit heavier.
Obviously, this is a lovely product, especially if you consider its quality packaging (sturdy matte plastic with a nice mirror) affordable price point: €16.95 at ICI Paris XL. It's currently out of stock online, but it is available in stores and is being restocked. A great budget product for those who want to use some contouring, but resent the effort that goes into that Kardashian look.
