Nikes, Backpack and a Maxi Skirt.

You might have read my post about my recent obsession with sneakers. You should know this one thing about me: when I'm into some sort of trend, I first start by trying to discern what my perfect option would be. In this particular case, I've been going back and forth between three options: a modern sort of running shoe (like the Nike Free Run), a more retro/classic type of low top sneaker (like the Nike Air Max 1) or a versatile, equally retro/classic high top sneaker (like the Nike Blazer).

All of them have their own appeal to me, but I'm trying to make my decision as rational as possible. Nikes are pretty expensive, and I won't just splurge on sneakers that end up being some sort of flighty crush. My perfect pair of sneakers will:

  1. make a statement
  2. work with more than one or two outfits
  3. and most importantly: be "me" and fit my personality and style.

After narrowing down my options. I start stalking the entire internet (and every shop I can visit) for all of my options at different price points. Ideally, I'll try on all of my favorites on in store, to see if I like them in person (you don't want your sneakers to be rude, obvi) and whether I like them on ME. It's one thing to like a piece on scores of gorgeous bloggers, but it's another to feel like it works for you.

I ended up at a Nike Factory Store (where I bought this AWESOME backpack for just 17€) at the Boomsesteenweg in Antwerp yesterday, and I tried on all three of my options. The running shoes were out of the picture straight away, I felt like they just made me look like a footballer/soccerplayer. The Blazers were cool, but a bit too much like Converse high tops: very cool shoe, but not really something to make a statement with. The Nike Air Max style kind of stole my heart though. I mean, LURV!

Right? So. I'm almost 100% won for a low top classic Nike model. But before I splurge on sneakers, I have to be sure I'll actually wear them and feel confident in them. Since I still had a pair of Nike running shoes lying around, I set myself a little challenge: to wear them in an outfitpost. Even though mine aren't what I'd get to wear for fashun, they still get the look across.

The Doors band t-shirt: Pimkie - maxi skirt, hoop earrings: H&M - backpack, sneakers: Nike - sunglasses: ASOS

Conclusion: I think I can make this work. I'll try to wear these ones a couple of times in the next week to get a feel for them. Not sure that I won't look back at this trend and feel ridiculous in a few seasons, but I've gotten used to that anyway. That's what you get when your style is any kind of daring though, so it's a sacrifice I'm glad to make. SO, what do you think??

PS: how AWESOME is my new backpack?

  3. gosh. I thought these were gone for good. I hve to say I seriously hate sneakers - but that doesn't mean you can't wear it, if you like it! I still hate it though, and I think they should be used just for sports :D

  8. well, after all I wore my Airwalk during the whole university years, even going to the exams with it (they were my lucky shoes!) but now I can't stand it any more. I guess it's about change, growing up and all that stuff. This year I can't seem to wear ballet flats either! I just love my combat boots and pull it out with anthing, expecially skirts! Yep, it's the 90s vibe calling :D

  9. 90s <3 I don't know what it is, but these days I dress more like a student sometimes than when I was actually at university :D I guess that's what working too much to care about looking pretty does to you, haha

  11. haha ja ik zou ze zelf ook niet kopen om als mode item te dragen, nee :D maar ik probeer mezelf te forceren zodat ik er al aan wen en ik mijn uiteindelijke optie niet gewoon laat staan voor een safere optie! :D
