I made pancakes! My boyfriend and me had been talking about those mega yummy looking American style flapjacks/pancakes for days, especially at times when we were hungry and nowhere near food (we like to torture each other like that). So when it was time to decide what we were going to have for dinner this particular Saturday night, I said PANCAKES like a little kid who wants to eat sweets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I googled the recipe, we had fun at the grocery store picking condiments (we went with blueberries, apples, cinnamon, blueberry jam, syrup and a typical belgian variety of treacle: stroop) and then it was time to get the pans out.
What you need:
1 lb or 1/2 kg flower
3 eggs
1 pint or 1/2 liter of milk
3 teaspoons of baking powder
1 ounce or 170 grams of sugar
Preparation:
Whisk together eggs and milk. Pour the flower through a strainer to get some air into it and mix together all the dry ingredients. Pour this mix into the milk and egg mixture, mix and presto: batter up! :-D (yeay for puns). And then it's time to start the baking which is easy as hell: just pour dollops of batter into a heated pan with some melted butter and turn when air bubbles start forming on the surface of your pancakes. If you want to make apple or blueberry pancakes, just put the fruit on the pancake while one side is still "raw" and then turn to have it all mix in together. It's easier to do than to type out so DO it already!
YUM.
Have a lovely weekend!

May I ask what European style pancakes are like? I'm curious now, since I've only had the fluffy thick ones. And now I must have pancakes for breakfast tomorrow!!! They look yummy!!
ReplyDeleteHehe I love when American dishes are interpreted abroad, it looks like yours turned out way better than any I ever make! Pumpkin pancakes are my favorite but I'm not sure if they sell canned pumpkin puree in Europe?
ReplyDeleteI love making breakfast for dinner but I usually make bacon, hash brown potatoes and scrambled eggs. Also sometimes a waffle if I'm really hungry!
nurmmmmm.... glad you had real maple syrup to have them with... I really have to pick some up next time I'm home. Love pancakes and have them about once a week!
ReplyDeleteOhh pancakes are so delicious, now I'm getting hungry haha
