After coming across these two images of gorgeous outfits pairing a short, longsleeved, high neck white dress with tall black boots, another obsessive search for THAT perfect garment had begun. I knew exactly what I wanted, but finding the right dress proved more difficult than I thought. Since the dress would qualify as more of a statement piece than as a new basic that would get weekly wear, I didn't want to spend too much money on it. But that didn't mean I wanted to make do with some sad, cheap looking summer frock. In the end, after a couple of months of keeping my eyes peeled, I stumbled upon a couple of super cute options at Shein. I ended up ordering this one, and I'm really glad I did!
The rayon fabric is delicate and sheer, so it needs a slip underneath, but that's hardly an issue as I had an old, light grey slip lying around that worked perfectly fine. I'd also say that it fits true to size. Per usual, I sized up because Asian sizes are so tiny (buying a large where I'd normally buy a small or medium), but I really shouldn't have. I dealt with the size issue by taking the dress in a bit where the sleeves are attached to the shoulders, and by closing up the open back with some simple handstitches, and now it fits perfectly. It reminds me of this stunning outfit worn by Simone Gerhardt in the second season of Fargo. All of her outfits were awe-inspiring, but there's a special place in my heart for that majestic coat, and that adorable white dress.
Loved that second season btw, and not just for the on point 70s fashion.
