Yo dudes! I ordered some Barry M Dazzle Dust along with my sis and a friend of hers after hearing raving reviews. You know I love me some bright make up from time to time. I loved it when I was a kid and made myself up as a cat or a vampire (my two favourite make belief personalities), and I love it today when I evoke Anna Karina with blue eyeshadow.
I guess I never really got past my childhood tastes. First eyeshadow I bought for myself was pink, and right now I'm STILL all about finding the perfect pinks, blues and oranges to rock on my eyelids. Read on if you're still in the market for some bright, shimmery shades of eyeshadow yourself, whether it's for everyday use (if you're a bit daft like me) or for a party look to rock on Saturday night.
Packaging: small, glass jars. Solid. OK.
I ordered Orange and Electric Blue: a warm, shimmery orange and a metallic blue with an almost grey-ish undertone. Loose powder, not pressed! So open your jar with caution or your product will just go flying in the wind. Another tip: use a damp, flat brush to apply your powder, or it might end up all over your cheeks rather than on your eyelids. Don't worry, I'm making it out to be more hazardous than it really is, no huge mishaps occurred. Just know what you're getting into!
These are dry swatches, which means I applied the eyeshadow to my skin with a dry brush and without a primer or base. Not as much colour pay off this way, but an honest impression of the texture and shade of the powder. The Electric Blue is a bit easier to use and gives a smooth, glided-on result. The orange is a bit more chalky and dry, but still perfectly fine.
Barry M dazzle dust in Electric Blue without a base, but applied with a wet brush. More colour pay off than using a dry brush as you can see, but not as long lasting as with a base or primer. I bet I could get this to look even more vibrant if applied over a base, for example in a stormy smokey eye with grey. To be continued.
Barry M Dazzle Dust in Orange, layered over a shade of Park Avenue fluo orange (this one, from the yellow, orange, green and blue quattro palette). Park Avenue is a great brand as well btw, def worth checking out because of a great colour pay off, broad range of shades and amazing value for money. But today we're talking about Barry M! So, I layered it over the P.A. orange and got this beautiful, rich fluorescent orange result. Almost frosted pink-ish in undertone while still steering clear from any sort of salmon shade. Impressive!
THE VERDICT:
Beautiful colours with a tinge of metallic without being 80s or cheap looking, great wear when you use them with a base or primer and really quite easy to use. A 9/10! Loses 1 point because of the Dazzle Dust being loose powder, which probably makes this a bit daunting to those who haven't had much experience with loose powders yet. Still on the wishlist: peony, marigold, pink shimmer and neon pink. PURDY COLRZ. Can't wait to pair the ones I already have with my purple mascara. Colourblocking eyes are the new black, riiiiiight?
How ya like them apples? Are you open to some face painting or do you prefer a natural look ALWAYS?
PS, protip: bright eyeshadow is SO much easier to rock if you pair it with a full face of make up. Don't forget your eyebrows, blusher and lipstick if you dabble in neon eyeshadow, because everything together creates a whole look that is, paradoxically, more subtle than if you wear bright make up with an otherwise nude face. TRUEFAX.
Bye now!
(On a totally unrelated subject: lately, I've been getting malware warning's every now or then when I try to access this site. It says the source of malware is www.boutiquetoyou.com, and recommends me not to access your site. It's probably nothing, but I thought you might want to know.)
ReplyDeletethank you! someone else told me too, no idea how to fix it though :s I don't think I've featured that website on my blog... I'll try to find an answer on google.

I do make up and this is embarrassing, it DOES look cheap. There are a lot of good beautybloggers out there, you should check them out, you could learn a lot of them. Btw, you have malware on the second page of your blog.
ReplyDeleteOh
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, I wasn't aware that blogging should only be done by
professionals. Excuse me! /roll eyes. But the fact that you chose to
word this comment in such a negative and confrontational way makes it
clear that you weren't
trying to give advice or help me out, just to be mean and spiteful.
Which is a bit sad and juvenile. If you want to read the blog of a
professional make up artist, by all means: google is your friend. If you
want to read a "normal girl" perspective on make
up, you might like my blog. Simple as that. The world wasn't created
to satisfy your particular needs. And this is MY blog, not yours.
