Beauty: wispy curtain bangs and getting over haircut trauma

All of my friends are already sick of me talking about this, so bear with me - I have an appointment at the hairdresser's this Thursday and I'm getting bangs! I've been thinking about this for ages now and I've finally made the decision to go ahead and do it. I've grown tired of my long, classic hair and I want to change things up a bit, have more of a "look". I'm aiming for a Jeanne Damas type of wispy/outrgrown curtain bang situation, slightly 60s inspired with a dash of boho. Totally my type of look, and I think I'm going to love the result. Either way, if I don't it'll grow out faster than those super thick or straight across bangs, so I don't have a lot to lose here. I've been pinning inspiration pics like crazy so check out my bangs board if you like!

pictures from pinterest, google and myself - I cut a piece of clip in hair extensions to get realistic fake bangs :'D

I'm still slightly stressed out though. I used to get my hair cut or coloured on a whim without regrets even if the result wasn't perfect (I've had multiple pixie cuts and short bobs so you know I ain't squeamish), but since my last big haircut (the unfortunately layered lob of 2013) I have been having a really ridiculous hair related case of PTSD. I liked my haircut when I left the salon, but after things settled it became apparent that the cut was shorter than what I had asked for, and had shitty, bad layers that only "worked" when I curled or straightened my hair into oblivion - or when I wore a hat. I wore lots of beanies.

What I asked for - what I got. Close but no cigar.

To add insult to injury, my hair was looking glorious just before I cut it. I had cut off two years of hairgrowth to get a cut I didn't even like, and it totally set off some sort of anxiety. I was so angry with myself for making such a stupid, impulsive decision that left me with bad hair for half a year, and I kept wishing I could just go back in time and take back my cut. I mean, I know it's ridiculous, but it still made a big impact on me to the point where I still have nightmares about getting an unwanted haircut! I want to get over that trauma and do something more with my hair than getting the ends trimmed, so cross your fingers for me and help me get past my ridiculous hangups this Thursday.

So, conclusion! I'm getting wispy, long curtain bangs, and it's going to be awesome. Has to be. Feel free to share hair related trauma here.

Beauty: MAC x Kiesza capsule collection review

Beauty: MAC x Kiesza capsule collection review

I don't always freak out over capsule collections - I mean sure, they're generally fun and fresh etc, but they rarely introduce a new classic, a new all time favourite. Well, this capsule collection is different. Singer-songwriter Kiesza collaborated with MAC to create two lip products, a brow product and a liquid liner, and I'll be reviewing the lip products for you guys today. If you love those 90s brown nudes as much as I do, stay tuned!

The two lip products Kiesza helped design are a MAC Vamplify gloss called Thunder Kiss - €19.50, and a matte lipstick called Dearly Beloved - €19.50 (also the name of Kiesza's latest single). Two browns, one a deep, glossy chocolate, and the other a soft MLBB nude.

Beauty: Clinique Petal Pop review

Beauty: Clinique Petal Pop review

I remember seeing this daisy print eyeshadow mono in early 2016 on Krizia's blog and completely falling in love with the product, but the packaging, the shape of the powder, and the pink-gold colour. I decided against splurging on the mono because I always need a bit of time before spending €20 on an eyeshadow mono - see also the story of my year long obsession with Urban Decay Solstice before finally buying it. Sometimes you need to wait and see if your obsession lasts before spending the money! However, I never forgot about this pretty baby, and I swatched it regularly whenever I was at Ici Paris XL. I finally got my hands on Petal Pop a couple of weeks ago, and I just had to review. Obsession satisfied :-)

Let's take a look!

Beauty: I Heart Makeup Chocolate palette and Unicorn Hearts higlighter review

I heart makeup chocolate palette review

When I visited Amsterdam with Kruidvat in December, I was spoiled with a huge Sinterklaas bag filled with Kruidvat goodies. Since Kruidvat had just picked up a range of I Heart Makeup products to sell as a special, temporary offer, I was lucky enough to receive the Chocolate Palette, €9,99, and the Unicorn Hearts rainbow highlighter, €5.99. These are two very popular, very affordable products that have become collector's items because of their aesthetic value. Since these are so sought-after, and because Belgian beauty lovers are still pretty much unable to buy this anywhere offline, I figured you guys could use a review. Let's dig in!

Beauty: winter 16/17 & Other Stories beauty products

In the weeks before Christmas, I received a package containing some new additions to & Other Stories' makeup line. Everyone knows I can't walk out of an & Other Stories shop without buying something (or a lot of things), so I like to stay up to date with their collection. Today I will be reviewing their complete face palette in Anadem Mosaic- €15, their lip pencil in Noeud Cassis - €9, their chubby lip pencil in Bouillonné Truffle - €15 and their perfume oil in Sardonyx fire - €15.

Beauty: Colourpop mini haul

Colourpop haul review

Colourpop has been the talk of the town for a while now, for a number of reasons: their creamy, hyper pigmented eyeshadow formula, their high frequency of adding new colours to their collection, and their wide variety of super on-trend matte liquid lipstick shades. But also their sort of shady dealings with Kylie Jenner - are Kylie and Colourpop simply selling the same product at two very different price points? And are their matte liquid lippies the bomb, or drying AF as some people were saying? Needless to say, I was intrigued and eager to get to know the brand myself.

Back when Black Friday had all of us running crazy trying to figure out what bargain to pounce on next, I took advantage of Colourpop's free international shipping to place two small orders. I stayed just below the maximum amount you're allowed to spend before being charged with import duty because I'm savvy and shiz, which provided me with the perfect occasion to finally get to know this brand. After careful consideration aka googling a bajillion swatches, I ordered two rose gold eyeshadows (Lala and Sequin), a duochrome cream highlighter (Monster) and a matte liquid lipstick (Instigator).

Beauty: MAC x Mariah Carey review

Beauty: MAC x Mariah Carey review

MAC's limited edition collab with Mariah Carey was a fan favourite from the moment the product shots dropped, and it isn't hard to see why. The packaging is 100% Mimi infused: uber girly, glamorous and high on sparkle. I received the My Mimi extra dimension skinfinish and the Dreamlover lipglass in an event goodiebag and despite these being sold out almost everywhere, I figured you guys might like to see a review. Beauty: Clinique Superbalanced Silk SPF15 foundation review

I'm super excited about today's post, you guys. I mean, if I had written this post one week ago, this foundation would have been part of my top 10 favourite makeup products of 2016, but now it'll just have to wait for 2017's recap. Let's dive into my Clinique Superbalanced Silk foundation review!

Beauty: top 10 favourite makeup products of 2016

I'm not big on recap posts, and you could say that January 2nd 2017 is a bit late to share any sort of year recap for 2016. But I felt like the concept for this particular recap is a valuable one: after all, I review lots of beauty products and shake up my routine so often that it becomes difficult to give my readers an honest impression of what products I LOVE, what products stand out from the high quality crowd, what products I keep going back to even after trying a bunch of different options. This recap features those cosmetics I discovered in 2016 that really blew my mind/improved my beauty game.

My ten favourite makeup products of 2016, in no particular order! Click the product name for my earlier posts/reviews on these.
