Amsterdam

Windmills, tiny living spaces, housing on the very edge of the canal and a grey, chilly, rainy evening: it doesn't get any more Dutch than that. It might just be me, but I think one has to move abroad to develop a true love for their home country. The sort of feeling that makes you say that you hail from the most beautiful country in the world and actually mean it, even if you know there is no objective standard to make your claim true. It's ridiculous, I know. But it feels so true.

Outfit: comfortable for a long drive up to Holland and a day of chilling with my nephew, colorful in order not to feel like a giant old drab-fest. Basically the easiest outfit in the book and therefore one of my favorites these days. Leggings + a loose top = the outfit equivalent of apple pie. IT'S ALWAYS GOOD.

Speaking of apple pie, I have some in my kitchen. I think it's time for dessert. Let me end with a question: do you have "special feelings" for your home country?

  1. I'm not sure if I have any ''special'' feelings for my old country...I miss the nature there greatly, and a lot of places that I haven't had the chance to visit in almost five years! I had a really, really bad life there, growing up in abject poverty, being unable to afford medical care even when I really needed it, unable to afford insurance, being unable to afford school and having to work illegal hours upon hours from the age of twelve (which is also illegal in the US, working that young) to help support my family. Moving to Finland is the absolute best decision I've ever made. And while I have a lot of problems with the culture and way of life here, I realize that I'm in a truly good place. :) I'd love to travel to Amsterdam one of these days!

  3. Wow. Amsterdam is so beautiful. Love, love, love the photos. Great floral pants, too.

And yes, I have special feelings for my home country. I'm never gonna leave this place.

  4. I totally know what you mean! I was born and raised in California (which can seem like its own country at times!), but lived in Germany and traveled Europe for 3 amazing years. Holland is my second home in my heart, I swear! You are so blessed to be from there. It is one of the most amazing countries!

  6. where are you from originally? Sounds like you were a really strong child that had to face an awful lot of crap. I'm proud of you for getting through it all.
