Job Interview Outfit

dress, sandals: H&M - blazer: Mango - purse: Primark

I figured loads of my readers to be in the same predicament as me (job hunting, inexperienced and insecure) so I thought you would benefit from me sharing my thoughts on what to wear for a job interview! :-D  For me personally, it helps BUNDLES if I'm wearing something that makes me feel chique. Major confidence boost. And confidence is (almost) everything when trying to convince someone of your abilities, at least for me.

I wanted to wear a blazer, since blazers are like professional dressing 101. I have exactly two proper blazers, a white one and a black one. And since I ended up wearing this dress (printed yet not too in-your-face, summer appropriate, not too revealing), the white one seemed the obvious choice. Also, white just looks really great on me. And my boyfriend once bought me the white blazer (+ matching pants) and keeps insisting I wear it because he thinks it's dead sexy, so I did! Sometimes one needs to dress sexily to keep the manpanion happy, or so I was told.

Another conundrum I had to face was whether or not to wear sandals. Sandals aren't exactly work appropriate in my book, but the function I was interviewing for was quite relaxed and youthful and shiz so I thought they would soften the blazer a bit. The watch was also a conscious choice to keep the outfit young: it's my new Swatch Chrono Plastic, and I L.O.V.E. how clean and white it looks. This one's actually waterproof! PERFECT TO WITHSTAND THE TEARS THAT YOU'LL SHED WHEN YOU DON'T GET HIRED

(my job interview went OK btw but I don't think I was qualified for the job - the search goes on!)

  3. I'm in the same situation as you are. Had an interview about a month ago (it was super-duper hot and humid, blah!) but I still swore by a blazer, even though it ended up hanging over my arm. Hey, I tried. Didn't get that job, sadly, but things are looking up right now... thums up and fingers crossed and OMG I soooo totatlly don't wanna be a grown-up (or grup, as they say.) A regular cash-inflow does sound appealing, I must say.

  4. Looking good! Succes met de jobhunt, het zal sowieso wel eventjes tijd nodig hebben voor je een job vindt die 100% bij je past. Komt helemaal in orde!

  5. great outfit except the sandals...I think no matter how relaxed or youthful the job is, you shouldn't show your toes. I'd go for a balerina instead - chic and pretty.always.
Good luck with your future interviews!

  6. I understand your point but obviously I don't agree! :-D I actually saw loads of people at the place I went for the interview working in open toed shoes.

  7. Ah, I think you look awesome! I halfway agree with Veronika V, but I think it really just depends on the job how you should dress; sandals are probably just fine since, like you said, the place was young and relaxed and you saw lots of people with open-toed shoes. As a general rule, I've always tried to dress a little better than the position that I've applied for when I go in to interview. When I interviewed for a barista position at a drive-through coffee stand where all the girls always wore jeans and tees, I still went for a skirt/blouse combo because I felt like... even though it was a relaxed job, I wanted to present myself at my best not only to display myself as professional, but also to show respect for the people who would be hiring me.
And once I was the manager and had to do some hiring of my own, I would never have hired the girls who came to the interview in ripped jeans and messy hair and a blouse with a hole in the shoulder (I could see the leopard-print strap of her bra, for goodness sake!) even though ripped jeans would have been just fine to work in. It came off as careless and disrespectful to me.
Good luck with your job searching! I think your intelligence and impeccable dress sense will definitely catch someone's eye!

  8. i'd hired you. because i love this outfit. i wear dresses + blazers to interview in as well. and i always wear closed toe shoes because a lot of places i interview in may take me through a warehouse or other place where it is necessary, so just in case, i do it.

  9. I absolutely agree! This outfit would be overdressed for the job I was applying for (more a behind the scenes sort of deal), so I totally had your thoughts in mind as well. A boy who was interviewing as well came in jeans, sneakers and an old plaid shirt, and he had a backpack. Looked just like a school kid. So it's safe to say I totally was overdressing. Wearing even more "prissy" shoes (like heels or ballet flats) would push this over to stuck up, is how I felt. Since no one would dress like that for a job interview like this :D

  10. I'm crossing my fingers for you anyway! Good luck in your search! I would have hired you in this outfit. I've never worn anything but a suit. I try to keep it more me by wearing a fun shirt underneath. I'm in a medical field though so I have to be more serious :)

  11. Yeah, the interview I bought new shiz and dressed up for I didn't get, but then I got the job where I wore an old summer dress and hauled a wrinkled blazer out of the wardrobe. I'd hire you, anyway!

  12. I see the point :) this showing your toes thing might be totally OK for some interviews, especially in summer and if the job is sg relaxed and cool. I don't hv a clue what kind of job she was interviewing :) Maybe Annebeth could finally advice??? :) But I think you looked very lovely and even if you looked overdressed there, you looked very nice and thats what matters I think!
