Marilyn Dress

dress: Mango - espadrilles: New Look - sunglasses: H&M

I know this dress doesn't look like the twin of that white one miss Monroe was best known for, but it still evokes the same vibe. Funnily enough, a dress that was pretty much considered the 50s equivalent of contemporary hip hop video clubwear looks classy and romantic today. OK, still a bit sexy, but not scandalously so! Then again, that might just be because I lack miss Monroe's boobage. POSTMODERN IRONY AHOY

Every year when a sudden heatwave hits Belgium, I rely on a couple of my favorite dresses. My hot tip: go for airy dresses with an open back that you can wear sans bra, as it will reduce MUCH of the sweating. This particular one is new, but this one, this one and this one have been favorites over the years each summer. Follow that last link for a checklist of the perfect heatwave dress.

What options do you turn to when your armpits are all sticky and gross? (ah the glamour of fashionblogs!)

  2. it's all about position: backlight is doable, but you need to have the camera positioned in a bit of shade ! :D

  3. Wauw, wat een mooi kleedje! Je ziet er weer prachtig uit!
Ik probeer trouwens altijd voor heel erg losse topjes te gaan met een gemakkelijk shortje, ook een aanrader!

  4. I love that dress on you! It's supremely floaty and classy, 50s night club dress or not. I've never really had open backed dresses, but I think you've got a point about them in the heat...

  5. That dress is gorgeous! It's terribly hot and humid here most days in the summer, so besides just giving up entirely I carry a lot of water and wear sundresses. And I take every opportunity to be inside the hottest part of the day... lazy, no?

  10. I love the dress, the print is so delicate.. I never find anything in Mango usually! I usually go for floaty trousers or a maxi dress or maybe something a bit shorter.. xx

  13. How can you say you don't have boobage? More than me, I think! Also, how do you wear a dress sans bra? I know that India is a lot more conservative so I probably can't attempt it, but still, don't nipples show through? That makes it slightly cross the vulgar line in my book, but if there's some place you can rock it & not get too much unwanted attention then I'm jealous.
Also, you may think this dress is Marilyn Monroe like but I won't agree or anything till you're standing on top of a subway grate or something with equivalent effect. :P

  14. That dress is wonderful! The print and shape are quite classy indeed. And hah, that's an interesting observation on how it's the equivalent of a modern-day clubwear dress. It does seem perfect for balmy weather!

  15. It's all about finding a dress in a thick enough fabric, this one is fully lined so it doesn't give you that issue. But it also depends on the shape and size of your nipples, lol :D not everyon's nipples protrude as much! :D

  16. awwww this dress. It's Summer Perfection! Too bad there isn't a Mango shop where I live... It used to be one HUGE store here, but it's no longer... :(
BUT when the heat hits I have many summer favourites, all pretty dresses in flowers, polka dots and several other prints. I think prints really 'make' the dress and they are my all time favorites. This year I purchased a super pretty sun dress in tiny navy vertical stripes, and it's a score thrift find! I can't wait to wear it.

  17. Open-back styles are just not an option for this lass :( My boobage is much too wild and free for that to ever be acceptable. The dress is absolutely gorgeous and it looks great on you. And I still love those sunglasses!
