Peter Pan Collar and Tartan Tights

dress: ASOS - tights: H&M - flats: New Look - headband: F21

A mini beehive and My Little Pony lilac pastel hair = looooove! I'm using my bumpit again. I'm still getting the hang of things, but this thing is absolutely perfect for those sixties hairdo lovers out there. And I love everything and anything sixties, as evidenced by my outfit! <3

God I've been feeling so uninspired lately! It's those darned exams, just rehashing stuff you've already been studying for an entire semester isn't that stimulating intellectually. Don't worry, I'll get over myself soon. I've been speaking my way too politically correct mind over here, scroll through to the comment section and look for me! :-D Feel free to let me know how you feel about the subject, I'd love to hear your opinions :-)

  7. I love the combination of the adorable collar with the tartan tights. It had the potential to look too sweet, but you totally pull it off!

  9. I couldn't hide a few smirks while reading the article (the texture of that one dress really does look atrocious), but I do think you made a fair point. We should all be more aware of how we judge people, and what norms and values exactly we are imposing on them while judging. I never even used to think about other people's clothes (unless I thought they dressed really great) until I started university and befriended a few (perfectly intelligent and amiable) friends who did occasionally like to slash other girls' styles. And sexual habits. Creating consciousness about this probably wouldn't be nearly as hard if gossiping weren't so much fun.

However, I do have one objection, or rather a question: where do you draw the line between slutshaming and voicing concern over girls/women who use their sexuality to feel validated as a woman? After all, merely posing the question could be seen as passing judgement, even though I think it tackles important issues like self-esteem, trying to please others, etc.

That being said, I too wouldn't like to sit on a chair touched by the previous occupant's ladyparts. But then again, the same goes for a hairy naked male butt.

  10. Oh, and major props for mentioning Bourdieu. He would be proud, I'm sure! :)

  11. I totally love your intelligent opinion and I have the same question. Those things aren't separated that easily and YES sometimes sexual choices do indicate a lack of self respect. The easiest way to deal with those things is to just not pass judgement on people you don't know, because it's their life and not yours, and you never know what is behind their actions so making assumptions about their motives really doesn't make any sense. I don't like gossip and I usually refrain from it unless it's so obviously over the top and humorous :) I just dislike negativity in general: humor can be based on positivity as well! negativity is so easy.

  15. Holy crap!! I had to stop reading all those comments on that girl's written piece. It gave me a head ache just thinking about it. Slut-shamming is wrong. Period. End of sentence. Although, seriously, I've been on the tail end of seeing one's vag and boobs in a bar because they were just too drunk not to notice that her bits were all hanging out. Thankfully I was there to help her get herself together but I wonder what ladies are thinking when they buy dresses like that to begin with. I would never call her a slut or anything terrible like that, but unfortunately society has a strong view of girls who "look like that". Especially men. Of course those men who saw her dancing around with her bare boobs out didn't let her know. Society just makes me sad sometimes.

  23. I love you! My first reaction would also be to check if the girl was ok and tell her that her dress wasn't covering everything anymore rather than think to myself "god she's so tacky". People can be such assholes.

  24. I wear that one all the time and I love it, it looks best with a sort of sixties-seventies look or a nineties look: short tops, textured or fun tights and boots!

  26. Wow, just read your comments, plus the long post, you linked to, and my word, that is a lot of writing. Completely get your point, and agree on the blurry limits that are so easy to forget and start "slut shaming". I also think you write so well, and make your point in a very pleasant and funny way, seriously Annebeth, your written English is ACE. Love this outfit by the way xxxx

  32. Having said I hate black dresses I love your black dress and of course the tights. Now, I read your 600 comments on that article and some I agreed with and sometimes I agreed with your sparring partners but overall I think I agree to your thesis that it's unnecessary for all these articles to start from a point of view of negativity and mocking people. Personally, I was more into the comment war about the inappropriateness of the Pocahontas comment, but to each their own.

I have to confess to being a frequent user of the fairly abhorrent work "skanky," though I sometimes use it affectionately as in, "I like Nelly Furtado way more now that she's embraced being a skank-ho and has stopped trying to pretend that she's all Indie-hippie." You probably loathe me now. :D I don't know, I have no problem with promiscuity in general and I think I draw the line at the same place for men and women as to where I start losing respect for them, though I'll probably say the woman has low self-esteem and that the man is an "asshole."

Anywho, I have to work in 6 hours and it's late, but thought I'd chip in with some of the thoughts that rattle around my head making this whole slut-shaming discussion difficult for me.
