Frida Kahlo

I seem to be drawn to Mexican/Spanish/Dia de los Muertos type of things lately. Okey that specific inspiration probably doesn't translate in my outfit all that often, but today is the day I prove my love! I am madly in love with this entire look. In fact, I have been hyping it on twitter by tweeting this is one of my best outfits of ALL TIME. I'm not taking that back, I stand by my words. I hope you like it as much as I do! And yes, I did something crazy with my hair again. Anyway, less talk more pics!

Told you it was awesome! Or am I tooting my own horn too much? :-D Can't help it! I'm in love with the colors, the prints, my hair and the exotic, retro inspiration. I bought this skirt at T2 for 2 euro so I obviously wanted to style it. I grabbed this blouse and went with red accents from there, with the clogs and the hairpins! The sunglasses were the perfect finishing touch because they added yet ANOTHER PRINT (the more the merrier) and because they added funk to the ensemble. The flowers in my hair are flower appliqué's from a H&M headband I took apart and pinned in my hair to create this flowery abundance. Almost reminds me of one of those old time swimming caps :)

(Totally want one of those btw). As you can see, I'm wearing my hair in a center parting! I haven't done so since I was about 16 years old and I still have to get used to it because it makes me feel like a dork, but I'm just loving all the different things I've been trying out with my hair since it's gotten longer so I'm keeping it for now. My hair looks completely crazy, but in an awesome way, right? I just folded it in and bobby-pinned it into place. It started falling apart after a few minutes but it still looked kind of awesome. And my outfit reminds me of Frida Kahlo, and Frida is awesome. I don't want no "but she had a moustache, ew!" comments on this post OKEY PEOPLE?

Stunning and inspiring, both aesthetically and intellectually. The prints, fabrics, colors and authenticity speak to me. Are you inspired yet?

  4. I'm most inspired by that gorgeous flower dealy in your hair. I see them for sale places, but I'm too cheap to buy them. I KNOW I could make my own...but I'm too lazy to do that. So I think I'll just not be cheap, buy some, and keep on rockin'.

I'm just glad you weren't inspired by Frida's unibrow. ;) That doesn't count! I didn't even MENTION the mustache!

Your hair looks great in a center part!

  5. I'm in love with the flowers in your hair! A really nice look, you're right! Also admire your posing skills. Dynamic poses are something I can't seem to pull off.
On subject of Frida. I admire her in all aspects, not only her work and style, but also the fact that she must be one of the strongest women in history. The hard life she had, makes her one hell of role model!

  23. I have to say that I start loving you with your longer hair (OMG loving you even more, I didn’t think that that would be possible ;;))). I see what you are doing and I love it, I always want to take a movie as an inspiration, so fabulously done. It is just taking it to the next level. Your hair and glasses a are perfect and I love the combination with the blouse. It makes it so complete. Love the skirt, the fabric seems pretty tick so I love the fact that you know how to wear the skirt. Of course the red shoes are the finishing touch. Oh and I want a bathing cap like that, must look awesome in the summer. i don't know anything about art, but i am sure that Frida was a strange drug addict f*****, and the result was phenomenal

  24. LOOOOOOOOVE YOUR LOOK!

  25. Haha, yes! I do love it! I'm not sure Frida was doing Flamenco dancer posese but in every other respect it's totally awesome! Oh, and I have those sunglasses too!

  26. ahhhh Frida... I always get the same reaction when I mention my favourite artist: "the one with the moustache?" or "the one with the uni-brow?" seriously people! at least try and say the Salma Hayek film at least, or i don't know...anyways, Zara has added a couple of t-shirts to their collection featuring pictures of said amazing artist.
Really like your outfit, the flowers on your head look lovely and are very summery. By the way, the design on my site is a wee more stable right now... until I muck it up again hehe! so your post looks much better ;) xxxx

  32. It's funny, parting my hair down the middle makes me feel like a hippie haha, but in a good way, because well... I pretty much am a hippie hah. I love what you did with your hair, it's so cool, too bad it fell apart. I'd probably do a lot more with my hair were it not for the fact that most hair do's all fall apart on me XD
