Lanvin Question

Hi lovers! I have a question for you. As you might remember, my boyfriend bought the crazy amazing LanvinxH&M dress for me last year, even though he was sorta hatin' it himself. The main reason he wasn't convinced of its fab-factor was the bit of nude colored fabric that covered the decolletage. I didn't mind it as much as I felt like it gave the dress a very two dimensional sketch like quality, as if the designer just pulled it off of his pages. But I did feel like the nude fabric matched my skintone too closely which just made it look a bit weird. I have been contemplating options to DIY it into something "better" (heresy?) and I would like to hear your opinion on the matter. Go ahead or STOP RIGHT IN YOUR TRACKS MISSYbjzkghrzogzhé"é(zgs!

Original sin:

My suggestion:

Sooooo what are we thinking? I tucked the fabric in and draped the ribbon around, keeping it in place with my armpits (lol), but it would be quite a straightforward operation to complete. Please tell me in the comments what you think I should do!

In other news, I totally fell for rainbow nails a few days ago when I saw some pictures on Le Blog de Sushi, so I had to try it for myself. Here's my first attempt:

Cute, right? Does this mean I have fallen for the colorblocking trend after all?

ANYWAY, let me know about the dress!

dress: LanvinxH&M
shoes: Sac d'Anvers
belt: Pimkie
nails: red - Hema, orange - Catrice, yellow - H&M, green - Catrice, blue - H&M

  1. AMAZING PICTURES!!! I love the first one :)

Okay I think it is a shame if you would alter it... however I LOVE how your alterations look... it really is a dilemma. My vote is... do it :) (I do agree about the fabric being a bit odd)

Have I told you how much I love these pictures? :)

  2. Ziet er leuk uit met die bandjes! Ik wou die jurk ook, maar het vleeskleurige gedeelte heeft me tegengehouden...

  3. I think you should do it! Your suggestion looks really good!

  4. I think your alteration is great. The way the nude fabric matches your skin tone is just south of perfect, but this way you have the same lines and vibe with better contrast between clothes and skin.

  6. It looks nice either way but I think I prefer your DIY project :)

  7. honestly i think it's gorgeous either way, but if you think you'd wear it more fixed up, do it. it's too lovely to stay in your closet. the color is perfect on you!

  8. I actually think it looks amazing either way so it really comes down to what you feel best/most comfortable in!

  9. i vote original sin! the strapless-look ftw. 'the hell's the trouble with the decolletage, one thing i remember of that night is that yr tits looked huge :p xxx MISSY

  10. I love it the new way! Why don't you just keep it tucked in so then you don't have to cut it or anything?

  11. i agree, the nude is a weird color and i LOVE what you have done w it! the only thing i would do differently is prob use a non black color for the new strap, bc im just a black hater in general :)

  13. reds a hard color to pair... but im thinking maybe like a pastel orange/yellow/green with it. something light and not too loud :)

  15. So, the original dress looks very designer, very fashion-forward, very red carpet. But, it looks weird. I think your alteration makes it look much more 50s... and way better. do it!! Then it will be truly one of a kind.

PS you're hot and so are your nails. xoxo

  17. Personally I love the original dress, the sheer fabric is what makes the dress so different, without it, it just looks like any regular prom dress. I dont think the sheer fabric is meant to be skin tone on anyone, just a pale beige so it looks lovely on you.
Is there anyway you could wear it tucked in and just pin on the ribbons, that way you can wear it both ways without permanently altering it? x

  18. To be honest I didn't get all the LanvinxH&M craze, and I have to agree that your version of that dress is so, but so so much better than the original version. That nude thing just ruins it and in your upgrade it's just amazing! So retro...
And I like your manicure too ;)

  19. I like the nude bit, actually, and therefore I'm siding with people who say, do the DIY, but don't cut it, if possible. Either way, I think the dress has great swooshing and dancing capabilities.

  26. I love the dress as is, but I am IN LOVE with your remake. I say if you can do it without cutting it, then do a DIY. If you have to cut it, then still do the DIY. People alter designer dresses all the time. Rachel Zoe did it to a Chanel dress and it looked better than Lagerfield's original.

  27. I'm kind of feeling just switching out the nude mesh for black mesh, or (call me totally crazy) coral or turquoise or purple mesh). I dunno. For me the fact that it's got mesh is a selling point because it just seems more comfortable that way...

    ReplyDelete
  28. The dress is beautiful as is, but I LOVE your alteration idea and don't think there would be anything wrong with changing the dress to suit you better. Nothing wrong with restyling something if you have a good idea!

  29. nooooooo! i love the original dress and i think the nude part makes it more unique and giving it its expensive look...also some sort of over the top embellished necklace would look great with that fleshy material. However, that being said i do really like your altered way too...so maybe go ahead with the diy but keep the nude part tucked in somehow..so you always have the option of going back?? OR...simply give the dress to me! :D

btw your nails are frickin awesome!

  30. The dress looks amazing on you! I like the 2nd version but I think I prefer the original more. The nude part actually matches your own skin tone so much I didn't even realize it was there until you mentioned it. If you do decide to alter it, maybe you can try to leave the nude part intact and just keep it tucked? :)

  31. beautiful photos incredible dress!! i really love illusion necklines, but this one i don't love so much. i like the halter neck you add better i think. my suggestion would be this: i think if you could find like a delicate black lace or tulle to lay over the nude it would make for a better illusion and bigger wow-factor <3shelby

  33. that's such a fun and amazing dress! I think the black strap thing you did makes the bust look much better :)

I like your nails, I've been obsessed with that! In between loading photos and commenting right now, I'm painting my nails white and blue to go with a hot pink skirt with white and blue polka dots tomorrow ;)

  34. LOL, he hated it and he bought it! oh men can be so sweet! you are right about the nude fabric: delete it. if nude fabric doesn't fit you perfectly, don't wear it. it should look like a second skin, you know the once ice skaters are wearing. i don't know if the top is strong enough without the nude. I don't know if the belt was a part of the dress, but i love it.
okay there goes my theory, i didn't think you are ready changed it: that would b my exact suggestions: add straps, but be careful because they have to be perfect. and they are because they are black. i am not sure about the back. maybe the top is too short to add two black belts so close to each other. but i love the front. oh and fabulous with the black shoes

  36. I absolutely love what you've done with it! The original neckline was OK, but the halter-style thick straps add a lovely 1950s glamorous look to it. I approve!

  37. I'm torn, I think it looks better the way you restyled it, but perhaps this has something to do with you frowning in the first pic and smiling in the last ones :D Just kidding! Without the extra fabric it's more of a typical chique dress, but it also looks more elegant. Whatever you decide to do, make sure Alber doesn't find out tho, he's such a teddybear and would be in tears if he saw this, I just know it ;) x Catherine

  38. I think I would prefer it with the alteration, you would make it unique, a Lanvin design that you made unique, which is not something everyone can say. If you think it can work, as in the stiching and sewing etc will be ok, then go for it. It's a stunning dress anyway, but I definitively like your upgrade xxxx

  39. I think the dress looks better with your DIY addition. It's a great dress, but the nude fabric at the top is a little weird. Your nails look like fun! Now I want to try it :)

  43. I love the multi coloured nails! I wish I had more nail polish colours to do that. For some reason all I have are emerald green, deep red and black, eep!

As for the dress... if you think you'd like it better that way, go for it! I think it'd look good certainly.

  44. your option looks perfect! i hated this dress because i didnt understand the purpose of the 'flesh colored' top... it looks A MILLION TIMES BETTER with the black straps and halter style. do it!

  46. I really like your update. Your skin itself is more flattering than the nude color masquerading as your skin. The only other thing I can think of to do would be to stitch in a corset top underneath and wear it strapless. But that might be a little harder than the current version.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I love the volume of the dress. It's big, red, and beautiful! But yeah, that nude fabric is weird. I say go with your DIY. Never be afraid to change clothes, regardless of the brand!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I personally like the nude fabric, but I can see why someone wouldn't. Maybe I'd feel differently if I saw it in person. I'm always a little scared to alter clothes, I don't wanna fuck it up! haha
I like your nails! I just took my nail polish off, after unpacking all of my crap for about 4-5 hours and now I'm too tired to repaint them.. but I might do that sometime soon. I would say tomorrow, but I start a new job on Monday and I'm not sure how serious they are yet, so I'll stick to something normal, I guess.

  50. Make it into a sirt, I meand it is a very hard dress to DIY, since there is not much we can do about i, maybe you can some layers of under the skirt to make it less puffy, if you dont like the puffiness!
